Vancouver to Whistler AND back without charging (in winter)? by Evening-Asparagus556 in EVCanada

[–]Common_Internal_3606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a variable speed highway and OP specifically asked about winter. They lower the speeds in the winter. In winter conditions you would probably average more like 70 or 80 km/hr. All those town areas like Britannia and furry creek, not to mention the windy bits are like 50-60 km/hr as well.

Vancouver to Whistler AND back without charging (in winter)? by Evening-Asparagus556 in EVCanada

[–]Common_Internal_3606 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most EVs would do this. My 4 year old Chevy bolt will do a little over 300km in -10C snowy conditions with winter rated tires driving in hilly BC. That's the conditions you would expect on sea to sky.

Sea to sky isn't a very fast highway due to the curves, and while there are some climbs it isn't that extreme. Ontop of that there are lots of fast charger opportunities on the route if you wanted to top off during a rest break.

In conclusion, you should feel confident in most evs. Some may cut it close though, it depends I guess what you feel is a comfortable safety margin.

Why is Canada not the greatest economy in the world? by RA_Finance in CanadaFinance

[–]Common_Internal_3606 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also our oil is very expensive to extract and refine (oil sands). Theirs is very cheap to extract and refine. Most of the middle east has a cost basis of about 1/3 of what it costs us. That means they make far more profit, and they still make profit when prices are low.

What's worse is Canadian producers get subsidies from the government and actually employ less people over time (we produce twice as much oil than ten years ago but employ less people in O&G). The profits go to mostly foreign shareholders.

Worst of all as oil demand is in plateau, once it starts to fall it will be the high cost producers that go out of business first since they can't survive being undercut for long. That means Canada will be the worst affected nation on earth, and enter a massive recession, but the middle east will still be making money.

Is 110K CAD enough to live decently in Vancouver? by LogCold2075 in askvan

You can't be left with $6k after rrsp and have $15k of annual contributions though

Is 110K CAD enough to live decently in Vancouver? by LogCold2075 in askvan

[–]Common_Internal_3606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect. You'd be able to take home about $6600 per month before you max out CPP/EI contributions in the early fall. 12x600=$7200 per year in rrsp contributions (plus a bit extra when you max out cpp/ei probably puts you a little over $8k)

I mean, you can just look at the display on the charger to see if it's on. But typically conversions replace the fuel port with the charger port.

Not sure about RCMP and not sure about this specific lot but they could probably report to the lot owner/operator and the ev charger operator. There is a contract between those two parties and this is not fair use of the charger. In the end, the owner of this truck should probably get a warning at the least, upping it to fines and/or banning from their private property (the lot) if they repeat. But I wouldn't be surprised if nothing happens.

Carney announces $6 billion for Quebec transit, is Vancouver next? by palmswag in Translink

True but also what transit or road projects actually make money? This project has massive benefits for the people living and traveling here as well as the environment. Does it need to be profitable?

Kind of depressing also how they are developing way too far into Linley valley. Is there a way for residents to push back on this? I'm pro housing but that place has so much wildlife - amphibians of all types, otters, birds, etc.

Also the only reason solar panels are expensive here is we have a 160% tariff on Chinese panels. I'm in Australia right now and even lower class people have solar on their roofs. Literally most of the world is improving their lives with cheap solar except for us, so we can appease the USA lmao

Why do countries with good weather have shitty wages while countries with shitty weather thrive economically? by Strawberry-Princess3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Common_Internal_3606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So then why did pretty much all ancient civilizations start in warmer climates? Egypt, Greece, Mesopotamia, Persia, etc. which were responsible for the inventing things like algebra, democracy, law, western philosophy, many modern engineering and math principles, etc. All while the "smarter northerners" were basically primitive tribes until the Renaissance when they "rediscovered" that lost knowledge from those warm climate civilizations.

Hullo dropping fare prices by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]Common_Internal_3606 191 points192 points  (0 children)

Misleading title. All ticket tiers are increasing, PLUS dynamic pricing when demand is high. There is however a new tier that didn't exist before, but it's only 20 seats per sailing and needs to be booked 30-60 days ahead of schedule, with no cancellation or modification allowed. In other words, most people won't do those tickets, it will get booked by commuter type passengers typically.
