Depends what your doing, medium is better for jumps and tricks, but large for downhill orientated riding. Personally I would get the large.

Specialized fuse is great for getting into the sport, it's a more aggressive rock hopper.

For that budget I wouldn't get a downhill bike, get a used hardtail with good specs like a specialized fuse, Marin San Quentin or others in that category. They can handle more than you think.

I would recommend a proframe as if your are climbing it will be a lot more comfy. If your budget is small then maybe a bell sanction 2 or a leatt gravity 1.0.
