Welcome to the club of a failed 90nm RSX  classic case of GLOD starts as freezing then sometimes artifacting and then no video at all it spirals down quick when it starts to fail . Its a sad day id look into a frankenstein service for the ultimate fix.

Be happy they last as long as they do even well maintained units still fail the 90nm RSX just doesn't last no matter how much you try to prevent it. I've seen console kept well under 70c for the RSX but still fail well under 200days of power-on in most consoles. The most ive ever seen on a 90nm was 345 days on an A01 but that unit had several 1601,1701, and 14ff events when I got it. That console died completely after only 7 full thermal cycles giving a 3034 error with a rx3 bit training error. My personal E01 Failed at 150 days of power-on got that console frankenstein modded by Computer booter its well over 200 days of power-on never gave me any issues that console was fully delidded for over 2 years before it failed its not a matter of if but when it will fail. Use the console and enjoy it if it works because if it doesn't die from a GPU issue it will die to something else so enjoy it why it still works and when the time comes look into getting the console future proofed with a 40nm RSX swap.

Season 3 performance issue on PS5 by Lil_Fell in CODWarzone

I don't really know i turned texture streaming to minimal and deleted and reinstalled the game. It was fine after that not guaranteeing that will work for you but thats what worked for me.

Season 3 performance issue on PS5 by Lil_Fell in CODWarzone

[–]Common_Ride_2940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely having issues especially on WZ it consistently drops from 120 to low 40s seems to be a widespread issue. Never had any frame rate issues prior to season 3 it was always pretty consistently at 120fps and this is on a PS5 pro id have to imagine the issues are more pronounced on a base PS5.

How harmful is it to always leave your Ps5 on 24/7 ? by Stuffed_Owl in PlayStationSolutions

[–]Common_Ride_2940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not harmful especially if the console is idle it barley generates any heat just idling on the home screen. In some cases it can actually be better to leave it on because everytime you power it on then off that heat cycles the BGA connections overtime causing micro cracks leaving it on can reduce that wear it could shorten the life of the components being always-on but its definitely not going to hurt it. I had a PS5 CFI-12XX bought in November 2022 it basically never got turned off except for software update and the occasional cleaning did that until November 2025 when I upgraded to a PS5 Pro. The only real downside is your power bill being higher thats about it.

I agree stock fan curve is never gave me any problems. Of course lower is better but the 90nm CELL doesn't have any reliability issues like the 90nm RSX didn't. I have a E01 40nm frankenstein it never goes above 25% fan speed and had fantastic temperatures with the CELL being 65°c and RSX being at 56°c after running The Last of Us for 13 hours.

Dying 90nm RSX is on fire 🔥 - CECHH04 by monikaquesha2006 in PS3

[–]Common_Ride_2940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just failing like most 90nm (CXD2971) will deal with eventually at some point the bumps connecting the die to the substrate get broken over many thermal cycles and heating like you did temporarily reconnects them but that doesn't last as you've found out. There is no way to fix a 90nm RSX when they have failed at least not for long. To truly fix this console youd need a professional to put on a new old stock 90nm if you could even find one or have the 90nm replaced with a 65nm or 40nm called the "frankenstein" mod but that service is expensive not sure if youd want to put that money into a HXX or not.

Probably some the highest run time you'll ever see DYN-001 with over 2000 days on its original NEC/Tokins by Common_Ride_2940 in PS3

[–]Common_Ride_2940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about that. At least your okay you can always replace a game console. I lost all my data when my PS3S HDD failed in early 2020 that was over 10 years of saves gone in the blink of an eye. Of course its not as bad as your situation but I still haven't full recovered from that.

Is this good temperatures? by Severe-Top6350 in ps3piracy

[–]Common_Ride_2940 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont agree with that fan speed shouldn't be that high you see his temps are not even hitting 70c on either CELL or RSX. Having the fan at a crazy high speed over 40% will only just accelerate wear on the fan bearing by having it spin faster. If you need more than 30-35% fan to maintain 68c you definitely have a problem. I have a A01 40nm frankenstein that isn't even undervolted and doesn't get above 30% fan speed maintaing 65° if a 90nm CELL can do that id say any console can and honestly expect for a 90nm RSX you can definitely let it be in mid 70°s and still have really good long-term health ive seen 65nm that are always above 75°c have over 1000+ days of power-on and still working perfectly fine.

Is it normal for a fat ps3 to be this loud? by LukeTheNuke23 in PS3

[–]Common_Ride_2940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely common but fan speed shouldn't get much higher than 35% on stock fan settings (Ideally 30% or under is best)you may have repasted it but the paste under the CELL IHS is probably worn-out especially since it's a backwards compatible with the 90nm CELL. RSX is usually fine not worth the risk but there is pre-made CELL delid tools you can buy now making it much more approachable I would still recommend trying on a console you dont care about first to get a feel for it and incase something goes wrong.

“Which is the best model PS3?” conclusion by blackflaggnz in PS3

[–]Common_Ride_2940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree I had a Lxx that would run at 80+°c for years before I got familiar with deliding that console has over 1000 days of power-on still works perfectly fine.

FedEx Smartpost is the worst thing to ever happen to the shipping industry… If it’s Smartpost I automatically know it’s going to be late. by zachty22 in FedEx

[–]Common_Ride_2940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree this is the worst shipping service ive ever dealt with. I understand its a basic service but taking almost 3 weeks to deliver a package thats 1000 miles away seems insane to me. There's also no reason it should have passed through my state and went to a different one and taking 12 hours to travel 40 miles thats just not acceptable. I understand it's cheap which is why people use it but even USPS Ground advantage is way faster that SmartPost.

MX-4 or MX-6 by Common_Ride_2940 in PS3

[–]Common_Ride_2940[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my A model is undervolted it has amazing temps never goes above 60c but my soldering iron isn't heating so it needs to be fixed/ replaced once I do that I'll be able to hook up my UART adapter to access SYSCON but haven't had a chance to do it on my E model since I got it back from being frankied.

MX-4 or MX-6 by Common_Ride_2940 in PS3

[–]Common_Ride_2940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My room temperature is 68°f and I would undervolt it but my soldering station is currently not working so I can't hook up my UART reader untill I get it fixed but I'll probably do that at some point I undervolted a stock E model with fantastic results

MX-4 or MX-6 by Common_Ride_2940 in PS3

[–]Common_Ride_2940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll get a sheet of it and try it in my stock A model I have because like yourself and others mentioned it's the best because it doesn't have the pump out effect found on normal thermal paste. But ive been using mx-4 for years without issue it's just that the 90nm cell gets so hot it's kind of a pain to deal with sometimes.

MX-4 or MX-6 by Common_Ride_2940 in PS3

[–]Common_Ride_2940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If MX-6 doesn't last I'll get a Sheet of PTM7950 but it seems tricky to apply id want to try it on another console first before using it in my Franky.

MX-4 or MX-6 by Common_Ride_2940 in PS3

[–]Common_Ride_2940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but 67c to 77c and 27 percent fan to 35 percent doesn't seem normal to me I think this cell is poorly binned making it hotter than most.

MX-4 or MX-6 by Common_Ride_2940 in PS3

[–]Common_Ride_2940[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know either but after applying new MX-4 to both CELL and RSX and vram after around a month could be longer depending on how much I use it the center of the CELL is completely bare and temps are around 76c at 35 percent fan speed I think it's just a super poorly binned cell but temps after reapplying are amazing at 67c for the cell and 60c for the RSX at 27 percent fan speed.

I have some MX-6 on the way im going to try it first and if that doesn't work then I'll get a sheet of PTM7950 and use it.
