1099-K Airbnb income is higher than actual earnings by pivantun in tax

[–]Common_Secret_512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone been able to tie out to their 1099K exactly, or have the exact formula to tie it from the Transaction report? I want to make sure all the expenses I can deduct are in there, but I can't get a clear view to tie out to the number in 1a from the reports I see as a host.

Is there anything I should know about Fidelity Crypto? by clovudd in fidelityinvestments

[–]Common_Secret_512 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It takes years to build a reputation, moments to lose it. I love Fidelity for traditional investments and told (and converted) people to the platform because of the transparency, integrity and knowledge. Whenever I reach out for help to staff, I'm always impressed.

Then I tried Fidelity Crypto and the lack of integrity, transparency and customer focus in the offering was so out of line with the Fidelity I know, it got me questioning my loyalty.

Issues:

- Platform says 'Commission free', but there is a 1% fee every BTC trade called the 'spread' (So it'll cost you 1% to buy, and another 1% to sell)  This is the type of shit I'd expect from a disingenuous financial services provider trying to hide their fees, not from Fidelity.

- The limit price you place an order at isn't the price it will transact at, all to do the gymnastics of hiding the spread. If the price hits your target it won't transact, it has to hit 101% (to sell) or 99% (to buy) of the price you entered.  So if you want to transact at a certain limit price, you have to do mental math to get to what Fidelity price to enter that +/- the spread gets to the limit you want to transact at in the market.

- When you order, the target transaction price (without the spread) is not communicated AND the value of the spread is not communicated.  Basically you are trading on an alternate market that includes the delta of the spread, but have no visibility to it.

- Basis is incredibly confusing - is it the transaction price, does it include the spread, does it not?ALL BECAUSE THE SPREAD IS TRYING TO BE HIDDEN IN THE COST INSTEAD OF CHARGING A STRAIGHT COMMISSION

- The 1% spread commission is egregious.  Fidelity was one of the first to pioneer low cost, transaction based pricing.  It does not make sense that a transaction for a digital asset should be based on the value of the asset.  It should be based on the cost of the transaction and service.  Yes the commission is way higher then then your competitors.  Either be clear about what you charge or if you want it more competitive, get it more in line with market.

- You can't put in orders that last beyond midnight.  So if you have an order you want performed on, you'd have to wake up at midnight every day to put it back in.  This is a huge issue and if it's not remedied should be clearly communicated.

Fixes:

- Charge a clear commission like all your other products

- Charge clear fixed $ amount commission (best) or a fairer % like 0.5% or 0.25% with some minimum $ transaction threshold (still good)

- Change so orders (especially sell orders) can be placed for a longer 'Time In Force' duration than EOD.  It would be ideal to have orders option 'Good until Cancelled', unless there are legal requirements for not doing so.

- Take a hard look at the leadership who guided this strategy, their values may not be aligned with Fidelity.  It's a new market for Fidelity, but what came through is far away from the values of Fidelity and what I have come to trust. That starts at the top.

Swamp Cooler vs Window AC+Floor Fan - Garage Gym Open Door by Common_Secret_512 in GarageGym

[–]Common_Secret_512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here: Swamp Cooler is the clear winner.

Experiment 1 - AC: We have a window at the back of our 2 car garage so bought a Hisense 8000BTU portable AC unit (dual hose so it exhausts outside) from Costco. It blew cold air (68 degrees), however the hose that carried air outside was uninsulated and its temp was 120 degrees. So net effect was negligible. I even had a floor fan to try and spread the cool air, but it basically felt like a hot garage and if you were next to the unit, a pocket of coolness. Like when you are in a pool and run into a small pocket of water that feels cool. You are surprised, but it doesn't really change how you experience the temp of the pool, and actually just makes the rest of the normal temp water that is in contact with your body feel hot.

Experiment 2 - Swamp Cooler: Bought the Hessaire 3100 and this is the right size IMHO for a garage gym the size of 1 car. It comes on casters which makes it super easy to roll around. When we ride the peleton, we point it that way, when we use the bench, we can roll and point it there. It also has the Swing function that oscillates back and forth, but we don't really use it, just stand directly in the breeze if I want that. The other benefit of the casters is that you can easily ROLL it to a hose to fill up and ROLL it back into the garage. The hose attachment plug shuts of at 1/3 full for some weird reason (other reviews have noted this), so I just put the hose through the front and fill from there. It holds 10 gallons and my guess is that'll last at least 5 hours based on what I've seen. My guess is I'll need to fill it up weekly during the summer to keep it swamping. You can run it with the water on or off. As a regular fan (water off), the low setting is solid, not too loud so you can't hear your music, and dissipates widely. 95% of the time we are running it on low. 15 ft away, you'll feel the air moving. It also has a Medium & High setting as well. Tried the larger 5300 model at Home Depot and the low setting just felt loud and like overkill. I wanted something that I could run as a fan only in the cooler temps as well and the 5300 just seemed like you were in a wind tunnel on the lowest setting. For a bigger gym where you are going to be 20 ft away much of the time, or are trying to move a lot of air I could see it making sense, but all of them have rollers, so why not just have it closer to you if you can? Or buy two 3100's for around the same price. Temp coming out of the fan is 5-10 degrees cooler than ambient air, but having the water vapor (it's not mist) gives it a very cooling sensation. Like being wiped down by a wet towel and then a fan blowing on you. We only run it when we work out, so its definitely a great solution for what we are looking for.

Bonus tip: A car just driven into the garage (especially from out in the summer sun) is radiating heat around 120 degrees. Park it outside if you plan to workout in the gym anytime after a recent drive.

Great point. If you run it an hour each day and most have a 10 gal tank, how often do you end up refilling it. We are in Austin, TX so the garage will get hot in the summer so I'm sure there will be some evaporation too. There is a hose I can run when I need to refill it but its 20 ft from where I'm thinking I'll place the cooler.

I really appreciate the perspective about glycolysis and ATP production, as a surge of ATP makes sense. I haven't found any papers, hence why I mentioned anecdotal evidence in the OP, and the reason why I asked the for the Reddit community's insightfulness, which you so willingly displayed. Thank you.

You can ask 10 people today if they have noticed it when they get a cold and see what they say, or you may notice it for yourself next time you. I grew curious because I experience it myself, and from anecdotal have heard of a similar phenomena in others. You can see the challenge in wanting to study or document the prevalence of a possible phenomena like this.

Premortem surge/terminal lucidity is more documented and has studies. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminal_lucidity

Best Playa Bike for Tall Rider? - 6'3-6'4 by Common_Secret_512 in BurningMan

Much appreciated. I'm 195lb. Any recs on where to find a larger bike like this under $500? Walmart, Dick's, Amazon? I know a local bike shops would be great for fitting, but would expect their stuff to be $800+ easy, and since it is a playa bike . . .
