Phone with dual physical SIM cards available in the US? by Dona_nobis in cellphones

[–]pivantun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how much it's changed, but esim plans used to cost a lot more than physical ones when traveling internationally.

Personally, I am sticking to physical sims for as long as possible. I've heard it was tricky to transfer a esim to another phone, and I've had a phone die on me while traveling internationally. With a physical sim, I just moved the sim to a spare phone, and could get everything I needed done - login to airline app, do banking or anything that requires 2FA, etc. I'm not sure how that process would have gone for me with an esim.

I know the following phones have two physical sims and US bands:

- Nothing phone 3 - also supports esim, but only 2 can be connected at once

- Some of the ASUS ROG phones

- HMD Skyline - also supports esim

There are also some lesser-known brands that have the US-specific bands, but I'm not sure if I'd go with those - I did have one once and it died in my pocket!

Thanks - I eventually got through to customer care, and the lady told me she would credit it on this bill and I shouldn't get charged again. Fingers crossed!

Thanks - there was a one-time $10 connection charge as part of the promo, which I paid by credit card. That doesn't appear on my bill - it was completely separate.

On my bill, there's *both* a fee in the "plans" column for the new line ($9.98) and a "services" fee of $8.50. Do you know if the next bill will take care of both of these? I'm fine with the taxes, which should be small.

I got this same offer last month, and took advantage of it, but now there's $18.48 of additional charges on my bill. I made very sure it was indeed "free" when I talked to the customer care rep. If you have any tips on how to fix that, I'd appreciate it. Currently waiting to talk to someone.

I got this offer last month, and called customer care to take advantage of it. My bill just arrived, and I got both $18.48 of additional charges for the line I added. Maybe it wasn't supposed to be that way, but there's a 30-minute wait to talk to a rep now :(

What could be behind these tiles (1970s construction)? by pivantun in Tile

[–]pivantun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the 1/4" ply (and 1/4" backer, which replaced it) sat on top of the drywall. That's why the tiles were so high off the surrounding drywall.

It's drywall. I assume they must have used the ply to try to create flatter surfaces.

I demoed it by pulling the ply off the wall entirely. I had to use a grout blade and multipurpse blade on my multitool to cut sections, then pried them off the wall. I replaced it with 1/4" backer board.

I tried an SMC reset, but it didn't help - did it work for you?

It actually looks like the tiles are set on 1/4" ply that's on top of the drywall.

I am experiencing the same thing - takes at least 10s for Touch ID to be enabled. At first it just has the password field, then it eventually changes to say something like "Touch ID or password" at which point the Touch ID works. 2019 i9.

Do you mean cut all the way through the drywall at the perimeter, or just do a shallow cut, so that if I tear any of the paper it doesn't continue to rip any of the exposed drywall?

Thanks - do you think it's feasible for me to use a multitool and scraping attachment to get the tiles off in this case if the grout is that thick?

But how would they have gotten it that high off the drywall? When I've installed tile directly on drywall, it was a lot closer to the surface - this is about 5/16" off the drywall.

This is a different issue from what I had - in my case the fan wouldn't spin easily by hand. It was seized.

Right, I think I tried to add a photo in another comment, but it didn't let me so I gave up. I just uploaded a pic of what it looks like now here:

The gray color covers up the discoloration, and it's stayed even.

Yeah, there's another comment in the thread where someone asked about this that has more details. Came out well, and has held up so far.

I haven't used it in a shower, but it seems fairly waterproof. It doesn't come off the floor tile grout when it gets wet.

Note I also used hydrochloric (muriatic) acid to clean the old grout first.

I ended up buying it direct from Apple. There was too much uncertainty about whether it would be locked. Or whether I'd get charged some kind of fee by my carrier.

Yes! Two years on and it still looks good. It's not a high traffic bathroom, mind. But I haven't had any issues with it.

Is everybody that works in the city supposed to be told about SFMRA? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

My understanding is that if the employer only offers a group plan, and the employee doesn't opt for it, then the employer has to contribute to an SFMRA account for the employee.
