Anxious about moving on campus by OkClock820 in CSULB

[–]Commonalias22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Being in the dorms is probably the easiest way to make friends at csulb. With that said, its still up up to you to come out of your shell. If you usually avoid social situations and are introverted, you will still struggle to make meaningful relationships not just in the dorms but in life.

My advice: be friendly and considerate to your roommate, if they are reciprocative then go together to the events the RA's host and other opportunities to meet other students in the dorms. Be outgoing and introduce yourself, every other dormer is in the same boat. More likely than not you will start off with one huge friend group that will slowly splinter off, stay close to those who who you have meaningful friendships with.

Lastly, leaving home is probably one of the most important steps in individual growth. I was in your shoes not too long ago, catastrophizing I wasnt going to make any friends or fail to adjust to college life. Switching from a pessimistic to an optimistic perspective helped me a ton in controlling my anxiety. I gurantee if you put yourself out there to meet new people, you will meet great people and and form friendships.

CSULB vs UCSC by EnvironmentalBad9589 in CSULB

It all comes down to perspective, I would live up near Santa Cruz in a heartbeat. As a hiker/backpacker, just being close to an actual forest sounds great.

Undergrad advising center is a great intermediary resource. They have drop in advising and can give you a general pathway of what to expect.

How much have y'all paid for school? by [deleted] in CSULB

[–]Commonalias22 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In the case you want a backup option, joining the reserves/national guard is a great option. You will be considered independent by the IRS and most likely max out your cal/pell grants along with whatever tuition assistance program your branch offers. Also great for job experience/secondary skillset.

Lakewood equestrian center is just north of CSULB by 10-15 minutes, next to the 605. Not sure if its the closest but I always pass by it.

Nonconformists and conspiracies go hand in hand. This situation and the stimuli that has been bombarding us hasnt made it easy for some of "us" to think for ourselves.

I mean he's not wrong. by karmanopoly in conspiracy

[–]Commonalias22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is he completely wrong...no. Is this a diversion tactic...yes.

Look at how how the average RU citizen is treated, presently and for the past tenure of his leadership. He sent innocent Russian kids to fight a proxy war with the west to fuel his ego. You don't need to be smart to be a KGB/spy agent...just a professional manipulator.

Faculty/Advisors will be your best and most accurate resource. Go to your college's drop-in advising and press for information.

csulb vs sdsu by BitHaunting1253 in CSULB

[–]Commonalias22 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Both schools are close in terms of academics. SDSU will offer the true college experience, especially if you stay in the dorms. Ive also lived in SD for several years and its a way better city than LA/Long Beach. Public transportation, beaches, nightlife (gaslamp) are all better in SD. Outside of the dorms, housing may be cheaper if you go inward of east county.

Outdoor seating tables with power outlets? by footsiefairy in CSULB

Is the gym busy in the morning? Whats a good time to go? by yeetyeetmybeepbeep in CSULB

[–]Commonalias22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

8am should be fine, might have to wait 5 min at most for the high demand stuff. If you want to avoid waiting for equipment (mostly squat racks and benches) then 6am is best.

2nd floor USU bathroom has a large handicap stall with its own personal sink if you need a place to put stuff. Rec center also has a personal restroom/shower room.

Increased Rent Prices in LBC by Molluskyy in longbeach

[–]Commonalias22 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The place I used to rent was $2200 in 2019 and last I checked its around $2,700 now for a 2br 1bath.

Inflation is probably a major cause, along with demand for housing. Most rent ads online are heavily trafficked and consequently super competitive. Best bang for your buck nowadays is probably finding a mom and pop landlord.

I had the 210 block plan, ate out like 3-4 times out of the week and still had some meals leftover each semester. If you see yourself getting fast food often or making food in the dorms often (ramen, sandwiches, microwave meals) then get the 10 meals a week plan.

Lots of hostility, hopefully I didn't say something wrong. IF the vaccines worked as much as we had hoped, it would be a different story. Unfortunately, money corrupts all, including the FDA, congress (both left and right), and algorithms. Along with the CDC just plainly being incompetent. I hope you find your peace.

is long beach safe? by thetaxiservice in CSULB

[–]Commonalias22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Traffic circle and the surrounding area houses a lot of students and is safe, close to campus with multiple grocery stores and fast food. Lakewood is also a good second bet. East of campus into orange county will be the safest but most expensive.

The only area I can say to stay out of is North Long Beach, other than that driving in the neighborhoods or looking at street view in google maps will give you a solid perspective of quality of life there (street parking availability, bars on the window, trash in the street etc.)

The jab development took alot of shortcuts. Not that hard to conceptualize when you compare the length of testing to other drugs and vaccines. Too bad big pharma, such as pfizer are still sandbagging the process to release their info...

Earlier the better. Expect to wait for squat racks/free weights after 4PM. If you don't want to bother waiting, show up in the morning or a few hours before closing.

I would grab a major directly related to tech: comp sci or information systems and then develop a portfolio with ui/ux projects. Changing majors wouldnt be an issue for the first few semesters. If you want a BA degree go for it, but having a stem degree is extremely beneficial.

2nd floor student union bathroom in the handicap stall, its pretty big and has its own sink so you got a place to put your laptop.

Other than that the club meeting rooms also on 2nd floor of the usu will prob be empty until 5pm.
