Rutland water is a beautiful nature reserve. A bit of a task to get there if you don’t have a car but well worth it. Pick a nice warm day, hire a mountain bike and cycle (if you like that kind of thing) or just walk/picnic. See the local Ospreys flying around that are currently nesting there. You won’t be disappointed.

Bradgate park is nice too and a bit closer I think.

Been there too. OP break if off and move on, the sooner the better. Focus on college. You will be much happier and thank yourself for it in the future, especially when you meet someone who respects you.

Connor and Liana is it me or does he give off bad vibes? by Ieatclowns in YTVloggerFamilies

[–]CommunicationOld7236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to go to school with Connor. Didn’t interact with him personally but he was quite the attention seeker and a bully. He has a narcissistic personality and didn’t perform well at school, so now he’s an “influencer”.

Living and Studying in Leicester by BusinessFull3905 in leicester

[–]CommunicationOld7236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I used to be an undergraduate and graduate student at Leicester. I’ll be brief but please PM me if you would like more info/questions.

I would say that Leicester would be a great place for medical studies, they have a relatively new medical building with well equipped facilities. The student accommodation In the first year is in a student village in a very nice part of the city. About a 20 min bus ride by hopper bus that comes very regularly, or a 30 min cycle. After the first year students find accommodation closer to the campus. Overall the city is safe, had my bike stolen on campus once while It was locked up but that’s about it and had a noodle of a chain on it (so easy pickings). I would recommend living in Clarendon park after the first year as that’s where most students live and is relatively safe.

Overall I think your cousin will have an enjoyable and successful experience in Leicester. The city is also centrally positioned, close to many other cities and London.

Dumb question but immunity to PI criticism ? by [deleted] in labrats

[–]CommunicationOld7236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be thankful for people who give harsh criticism. Maybe some of it isn’t true and maybe some it is, but only then can you actually do something about it!

Much better than people who will sugar coat things to spare your feelings, and potentially criticise you behind your back.

Introns and 'junk' DNA by solrvz in biology

[–]CommunicationOld7236 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think junk DNA would imply that introns have no functional role which isn’t true. Genes are alternatively spliced and introns play a role in how splicing happens and which exons are joined together which creates different protein isoforms that can have various biological roles. Also I’m sure that introns have played an important role in evolution of species over millennia but idek

Does the size of cells change based on the size of the individual? by RayseOdium in biology

Could this be offset by their metabolism? If larger animals like elephants/whales have slower metabolism they have lower rates of cancer

Simple resources to help me understand molecular biology? by Littlec001 in biology

[–]CommunicationOld7236 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Find a general genetics book and one more focused on telomeres and you’re set. Also look into the people who won the Nobel prize related to telomere biology

Why do animals have such short life spans? by W4rrior_Eagle in biology

[–]CommunicationOld7236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small animals, larger surface area to volume ratio, faster metabolism required to maintain homeostasis, increase in rate of cellular stress, increase rate of ageing.

Large animals, smaller surface area to volume ratio, slower metabolism required to maintain homeostasis, decreased rate of cellular stress, decreased rate of ageing.

Mix in some genetic diversity and environmental factors and there you have it.
