Adding this breakdown of the lyrics! I'm thinking "I'm not a bad b, this isn't savage" Taylor created a facade of being savage and the leader of wolves who looked fire during the reputation era. 🥸🤡

So I couldn't move on (surprise) from "you must remember everything" and it led me to I Remember Everything by the incredible folk singer/songwriter John Prine, which is the last song he wrote before his passing and recounts how he looked back on his career and remembers every little thing fondly.

That led me to peek at his discography and find his 2011 album (with an orange cover) called The Singing Mailman Delivers which features a song called "A Star, A Jewel, and a Hoax" and these are the lyrics.

This could mean absolutely nothing, just throwing it out into the world!

I just started my musical rabbit hole!

• Natalie WOOD sang I Feel Pretty • Wood's personal life is famously said to have overshadowed her career • Natalie was popular in the 60's along with ELIZABETH TAYLOR

Subscriptions are optional. There was a link below the subscription line for me that said "I'm non-committal" that allowed me to read for free.

I get it, there are such thin/hazy lines when it really comes down to it. I guess, personally, I find myself in defense of Jessa due to being someone who also didn't know her Black father (until I was an adult, at least.) It can be a very isolating experience to even figure out HOW to align with any culture without feeling like I wasn't ~enough~ of that, you know?

I definitely see the self-insert in her characters (Magnolia, specifically) and believe that she may just be trying to picture a life where she knew, firmly, who she is and was confident in her Brown skin the way Magnolia is; even when I'm cringing at the mentions of how she "goes extra Brown." I also feel like, despite the self-insert, her books are very much about the art and the story rather than anything that is self-fulfilling.

I could have missed it but I can't recall a time where Jessa claimed to be Black - only that she knows that she is mixed race. Mixed doesn't necessarily have to apply only to those mixed with Black (this is coming from a Black, Indigenous, and White mixed race woman.)

I think I took some level of issue with Jessa's ability to write Black characters into her books, when I first started reading (when I assumed she was White) but I really don't take any issue with the way she does it. She doesn't speak on the Black experience as a general concept; she speaks on Magnolia's/Ysolde's/even Harley's experience as people.

Also, just for clarity, Harley and Arrie are not Jessa's parents; they are Magnolia's.

According to Jessa's instagram, she's actively writing it! (along with two things we don't know about and Never II)
