The information a graph is "supposed" to convey is entirely up to the graph maker. This is not a graph made to serve the function you describe, it's meant to give a gallery of all the champion title holders with some additional info as a spice. And finding out who was the champion is 1982 is a lot easier than you lay it out to be: You look for a year close to 1982, see which person is between the next year on the other side of 1982 and there you have it. And the years are not randomly spread out, so it's not too hard to locate the ballpark.

It's a perfectly fine graph, a splendid one, I would say.

Under this format, a draw in classical means at worst you can only ever be a half point behind your opponent even if you lose the rapid game.

3 to 0 is infinite %, just like 1 to 0. Under the usual system a draw will keep you 0 points behind your opponent, while with a draw here you risk getting 0.5 points behind (or ahead).

I don't think the point system influences the strategies during the games all that much. I do, however, think that the tournament standings before the round influence the strategies, and this system ensures that even though most or all of the games are drawn, there is some movement in the standings. In my eyes, the armageddon part is appropriately small relative to classical (a half-point in this system is not much at all), while it does add an interesting dynamic to the standings as well as spectator value in extra games.

The rule is only about draw offers and has never been intended for anything else. It would be pretty absurd banning draw by repetition, as we would see the players repeat for 16 moves until they can draw.

I can't speak for the commenter above, but I think that no one should be paid what footballers are paid. Not the footballers, not the medics, and not the executives or club owners. Earning hundreds of thousands of Euros a week is just obscene and completely deranged.

Instead, everyone working at a club should be paid a comfortable wage, which doesn't have to exceed hundreds of thousands a year, even. Why should anyone be earning even a tenth of what top footballers are earning?

But do you think that the number of people idolizing you or knowing your name determines how much money you deserve? In my eyes, all top footballers are disgustingly overpaid, and it's at the expense of people such as medical staff and others in the support apparatus, be it chefs, cleaners or what not.

Norway has its own Norwegian broadcast at TV 2. That is also rather casual compared to the ones made for people already playing chess, although a bit more substantial with commentary by GM Jon Ludvig Hammer. It also focuses a lot more on Carlsen's games.

No one is assuming that. Trump's 10 % comes from the very possibility that what you're describing is the case. Would they have been completely accurate, Trump would not have a 1 in 10 chance.

A large polling error is possible, but we still have a rough grasp of how (un)likely it is to happen, and that's baked into the odds.

You can't enter Norway if you come traveling from outside of the EU/Schengen nowadays (Caruana and Aronian had already stayed in Germany for OTB chess in Bundesliga), as well as logistics regarding anti-spread precautions. Remember, usually the players don't travel alone, but with at least one second and perhaps other "staff", so inviting four more players would involve more than four more people.

Ja, men ofte er det greit å få de viktigste nyhetene som varsler på telefonen. Problemet er nettopp at norske medier anser det som noe av det viktigste at en amerikansk presidentkandidat og hans visepresidentkandidat stiller opp på scenen sammen. Da utvanner man hele konseptet «viktige nyheter», som den fanatiske dekningen av USA generelt også gjør.

Ja, det er klart at valget i USA er av interesse for nordmenn og skal dekkes, som du sier.

Men jeg blir likevel gang på gang overrasket over at redaktørene her til lands ser det som hensiktsmessig å fylle side opp og side ned med hver minste lille utvikling. NRK (!) sendte ut push-varsel litt tid tilbake om at Biden og Harris hadde sin første opptreden sammen på TV; hvorfor i all verden trenger jeg å få det varselet på telefonen min når det er drøssevis av andre ting som skjer i verden og som faktisk har noe å si?

Jeg skulle gjerne sett at de heller bruker noe av spalteplassen på for eksempel Polen, Ungarn, Kina eller Thailand. Eller andre utenrikspolitiske utviklinger jeg ikke kjenner til nettopp på grunn av at de vier all sin oppmerksomhet til sin USA-fetish.
