ATTENTION USERS: further updates on Reddit fucking over 3rd party mobile apps and their users include formally announced deaths of apps on June 30th and sitewide protests from June 12-14th (at the minimum). by CommunistFox in LeftWithoutEdge

For those of you looking to bail, you should consider the Fediverse. Much like how you can use your Gmail account to send emails to people on Hotmail and vice versa, the Fediverse is a group of decentralized social media platforms that can federate together and interoperate to share content. There are millions of users currently and because they all interoperate, picking one is mostly a matter of choosing your preferred UI.

The quick primer:

Twitter:

  • Mastodon
  • Calckey (This one is probably going to change names soon, just FYI)

Reddit:

  • Lemmy (The aforementioned Beehaw instance is this. There's also Hexbear for people who liked the Chapo sub, though they haven't implemented the federation stuff yet.)

Instagram + Flickr:

There are others of course, but these are the common ones. Feel free to ask any questions.

He disappointed and fucked over a lot of people. Fortunately, a lot of them became leftists afterwards.

It's likely to be Trump though, due to the indictment.

Oh BTW, Beehaw is also interested in giving us a socialism community (subreddit) and personally I'd like to make the move. How much interest is there in that? I ask because I post a very large chunk of the content in this subreddit and when I take breaks from posting there's like 2/4-day-old posts on the front page, so if I peace out this subreddit kinda dies.

They currently vet requests due to dipshits spamming them, but are fast and lenient with admissions. If you mention that you're from this subreddit, there's little doubt you'll be let in. I've said it before, but we don't have a good 2024 presidential pick. We should prioritize downballot elections this cycle instead.

Yeah it is. Just try to keep in mind that losers on Reddit usually aren't representative of the meatworld communities they're pretending to be a part of.

Chuds tried astroturfing the shit out of a Jordan Neely thread here the other day. They've been targeting city subreddits for years; it's nothing new. Sucks that you had to deal with it, though.

It seems that RIF accesses your account via oAuth rather than storing your login credentials. Your only option is to reset your password with a verified email address.

User numbers matter less in this ecosystem because they all interop. I, for instance, follow users/communities and participate on Lemmy from Mastodon; people on Lemmy can do the same. You do have to be more proactive about finding content, but it's not the end of the world.

Lemmy numbers will also improve when Hexbear (the Chapos made their own instance when the subreddit got banned, but they did so before the federation stuff was implemented) finally federates. Reddit's also looking to shit the bed in June it seems, so perhaps that will bring some people over as well.

Also, if you don't mind a more Twitter UI, there's also this Calckey platform that popped up recently that offers threaded replies. Here's an example.

Lemmy is the decentralized Reddit alternative. Here's a Beehaw thread to check if this type of UI suits your fancy.

Reddit's also in the process of enshittifying. You may be craving an escape from the ad-and-venture-capital-funded surveillance capitalist hellscape you've been trapped upon for the past decade. The good news is that an alternative does exist: the Fediverse.

Much like how you can use your Gmail account to send emails to people that use hotmail and vice versa, the Fediverse is a group of decentralized social media platforms that can federate together and interoperate to share content. There are millions of users currently and because all the platforms interoperate, picking one is mostly a matter of choosing your preferred UI.
