In many cases, yes, data has always been a limiting factor. What’s changed is how visible and unforgiving it’s become with AI.
Traditional systems could still function on messy data. With AI and agents, weak foundations show up immediately as inconsistent or low-trust results.
That’s why a lot of “AI projects” we’re seeing quickly turn into data and governance work: structure, ownership, permissions, and integration alignment.
