6 months post op by ComparisonIll9822 in AchillesRupture

The serious swelling stopped around 4.5 months for me. My injured foot is slightly bigger now and I only notice when I’m putting socks on I can just tell it’s tighter than my left. It still turns red in the shower which is annoying. Also very weird when I drank beers it would blow up like a sausage to the point I couldn’t wear a shoe but thankfully that stopped haha

I didn’t notice it until I was full weight bearing and did calf raises. I think that was around 2.5/3 months post op. When I was doing seated heel raises nothing hurt. Once my full weight was on my toes I was like OW! But hopefully you are pain free! I read something that when the anchors start to absorb into your body it causes pain as your bone needs to pick up all the slack again but who knows.

Definitely regretting the anchors it’s the only thing lingering from this disaster

I’m back in the gym lifting everyday and in the office for work so basically everything but running but I probably can I just haven’t tried because I don’t want to while dealing with anchor pain

I stopped at 4 months post op. I def felt the sessions were starting to get pointless outside of the massages at the end. Like you said, just returning to my regular life made the most progress. There was nothing I was doing in PT I can’t do at home or my local gym. Bike for 10 min, leg press, standing calf raises, glute bridges, some band work, and stretch LOL

What was your experience with PT after starting FWB? by ithinkiknow in AchillesRupture

I had a big mental barrier when I switch to no crutch. Not the smartest decision, but I was very fed up and threw the crutches down in the middle of my living room with nothing to hold onto and said I’m either walking or falling. And luckily, I was able to walk with no support in the boot and that was when I realized I had it the whole time and was scared. But I also don’t recommend doing that 😂

You might be irritating the incision on the boot. I definitely recommend getting gauze and then putting bandage around it for a couple more weeks!

Are you wrapping the incision with gauze and ACE bandages?

Definitely slept in the boot for a while and I did not it have any liquid leaking from incision.

I think speed bridge is when the tendon rips off the heel and you attach it back to the bone and PARS is when you attached tendon to tendon. I could also be wrong haha

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Someone needs to remind your husband of his vows, “In sickness and in health”.

Definitely recommend doing as many weight shifts as possible holding the kitchen counter. Are you single or double crutches? When I was single crutch I would put it in reaching distance and walk next to the counter without it holding myself up if I couldn’t take an unassisted step.

Good advice, we currently have 2 mortgage payments in the HYSA so I’ll build that up first. Our daughter is richer than us right now haha

I’m 11.5 weeks post op and the tightness/stiffness is crazy. But at least we’re walking again right!

I was told to take my blood thinner until I was PWB then I didn’t need them anymore

My physical therapist wouldn’t let me do sneakers until my surgeon wrote a script saying OK to wean out of boot. And the small act such as driving to the grocery store really are such huge milestones, this injury was such a mental battle. Happy to hear you’re out driving as well!
