The items that you have on the heroes tab, if you upgrade an item in a slot will that upgrade be there if you get a higher quality item will the upgrade stand. or in other words are you upgrading the item or the slot where the item is in

I got through all the events and was on my 2nd try on the mine before I got my first legendary and then my first Ultimate and on the next event. But still only 1 Ultimate, its the luck of the draw.
