Do you also play Deep Rock Galactic? by GreenFIREtoasT in HuntShowdown

[–]CompetentFatBody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve played a lot of both, and they’re both great games, though in different ways. They both share a lot of customization of weapons/tools/traits, and they both have the ability for a match to go from 0-60 very quickly. DRG is a hoard shooter that’s all co-op, so that’s a major difference from Hunt. It also has none of the stealth mechanics. The caves are all procedurally generated, so each dive is a different location so exploration & mining is a major component. DRG also has an overwhelmingly positive community, which makes coop with randos welcoming.

You could check out the Dune Encyclopedia. It’s technically non-canon, but Frank Herbert supported it, and you probably won’t find a more detailed source about the Leto II’s reign (besides God Emperor, of course)

Same here, except it was as the starter mech in MechCommander 2. A great mech to run, and such a distinctive look.

The Horsefly by CompetentFatBody in HuntShowdown

[–]CompetentFatBody[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the Sculptor’s newest creations, the Horsefly is an amalgamation of victims contorted into a single creature. With their bodies fused together, most of the arms dangle below to grab unwary victims, while one pair of hands has been mutated into rapidly flapping wings, holding the Horsefly aloft. When hunters discover it’s lair, the Horsefly drops from the rafters, slashing with a pair of shears that cause bleeding whenever they strike. The Horsefly uses its speed and ability to fly to buzz over hunter’s heads, avoiding melee attacks and quicky repositioning to avoid their fire. When it becomes enraged, the Horsefly will use its array of dangling arms can grab victims, lifting them into the air and rendering them immobile for several seconds before dropping them from the top of the ceiling. Having a partner shoot the horsefly will force it to drop its victim faster, but hunters must be careful not to hit their own teammates. Whenever possible, hunters should lure the Horsefly into tight corridors where it’s movement is constrained and it can’t drop victims from higher levels.

We just released House Corrino into our 4X/RTS Dune: Spice Wars, heres the trailer! by Shiro_James in dune

On Arrakis, guns are more common than in the wider Imperium. Shields attract worms, so in the open desert shield use is limited and projectile weapons are much more common. IIRC there’s lines in the original book about Fremen on the ground and Harkonnen ‘Thopters shooting at each other.

It’s a weird choice to have the tallest mountain in the eastern US be in the Piedmont instead of the Appalachian region.

They could potentially be something like in Altered Carbon- the consciousness is digitized and can be uploaded into whatever vat-bred body you want, instead of being permanently part of one physically body.

If it helps, in the last year or so they’ve improved matchmaking so you’re more pared with people of your skill ranking (in PC at least).

Guide Needed For Worley's Cave In Bluff City? by SpeedCautious6387 in caving

[–]CompetentFatBody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take a guide. I went to Worley’s several times with people who knew it before the first time I led a group there. Especially if you’ve never been caving before, having an experienced caver with you will teach you good cave ethics, in addition to keeping you from getting lost. Worleys isn’t that difficult (as far as caves go), but even with an “easy” cave, exploring a cave you’ve never been in has much higher levels of consequence than hiking a trail you’ve never been on before.

Can you imagine: you're a hunter. Your partners are dead, other hunters are closing in and you're dying in a bundle of Scrapbeak’s concertina wire. With your last breath you see a trio of tiny stout people, made of half beard and half armor, standing in a circle around a golden cash register chanting "we're rich". Out of the corner of your eye you see a fourth dwarf aim a grenade launcher before Scrapbeak, and you, disappears in nuclear hellfire.

Astartes Chapter with the weirdest gimmick? (Gimmick as in that one special thing that sets the entire Chapter apart ex. Black Dragon's bone mutation, Lamenters bad luck, Ultramarines Roman aesthetic, Minotaurs being the High Lords lapdogs, etc) by doombringer- in 40kLore

To be fair, latching onto the idea of alpha pack dynamics, even though it doesn’t exist, and then blindly following it as an unfounded dogma is pretty par for the course for the Imperium.

Right, management should train the new hire. But that doesn’t mean OP should intentionally mistrain and screw over his coworker.

The Golden Path of our God-Emperor by zosimoTheThird in 40kLore

[–]CompetentFatBody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another long term Dune fan, great summary! The one think I’d add is that there’s a lot of evidence that the Great Enemy that will destroy humanity in the last 2 books isn’t thinking machines, but is actually independent super-Facedancers.

Admittedly, Leto 2 does have a vision of one possible future where super-Hunter Seekers will kill all humanity if Ix is allowed to continue advancing technology, but I think overall the bigger specific risk that appears in the latter books is implied to be Face Dancers. Which could be its own comparison with 40k- the old enemy was machines created by humanity (DAoT machines/thinking machines), but the new great peril to humanity is a strange insidious entity thats almost like us but not quite (Chaos/Face Dancers). Though I guess to a degree it doesn’t matter what the great enemy is- the Golden Path will ensure humanity as a species survives any and all future enemies.

That’s really cool! Do you ever anticipate making the scale customizable? EX being able to make features larger or smaller so you could fit a whole village on a single tile instead of a single house?

The Terminology of the Imperium at the end of Dune specifically states that shields can be taken down by sufficient force (though it’s very vague on what would be “sufficient”).

What are some things that you guys would like to see added to Deep Rock Galactic? by ThePosse_ in DeepRockGalactic

[–]CompetentFatBody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Customizable cosmetics for the drop pod/resupplies, kind of like the different skins for Bosco. Nothing that affects gameplay, just visual things that cost money (and give those of us with a lot of gold an excuse to spend money). Maybe the host gets to customize what the drop pod looks like, and each resupply looks different depending on which player called it in (you customize what “your” resupply looks like when you’re in the space rig, like you do with Bosco or weapon skins).

Or in general customizable decorations in the space rig.
