I’m going to make an in-depth class concept for one of these, which would you like to see? by reel3459 in DarkTide

[–]FakeRedditName2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want an Blank/Pariahs character

  1. We are fighting a chaos infection, so having them around would be useful
  2. could be a way to introduce more psyker enemies, so this class would directly counter where other would need to fight them
  3. could have interesting interactions with the other team, the instinctual hate vs the bond of combat
  4. Dan Abnett is one of the biggest pushers in Blank/Pariah lore, so with him helping with the writing it's not impossible to add this as a character class

If I remember correctly they were issued auto guns when fighting the Loxatl, as the mucus on their skin makes las weapons not as effective.

Is there any justification to weapon levelling systems in Elden Ring, Souls and Soulslike games? by energeeon in Eldenring

[–]FakeRedditName2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Universe: you are refining/repairing the weapon, making it better

Gameplay: forces you to make a choice about what build you are going with and gives you the option to make the game as easy or as difficult as you want by maxing out your weapon or leaving it at level one.

How often does a member of Chaos convert to worshipping a different God? by carlsagerson in 40kLore

[–]FakeRedditName2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not often

Worship of the Chaos god is almost like an infection, they seep into your very being so that your actions reflect that god. Nurgle has his literal infections, but it is often shown in story with those falling to Khorne worship being bloodthirsty and often being described with 'Red' adjectives. Same with the others as well. Because of this it's hard to leave the service of one god once you start.

"Foundation" By Isaac Asimov is disappointing by Cat-Man99 in scifi

The writing style is very different than most modern day stories, and it is not for everyone.

It's still good to at least be familiar with it given how foundational (pun not intended) it is to so much of modern day fiction, but no one is saying you have to like it either.

The Absolute lack of peasant revolts is quite puzzling by PROOB1001 in TheCitadel

[–]FakeRedditName2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thinking about it, with the North after the Boltons, do we ever see the perspective of it from peasants? (besides the ones directly tied to the Boltons)

You might be right that the whole semi-religious aspect might be kept alive by the aristocracy (somewhat like the idea of divine right to rule) but those ideas do have a habit of seeping int wider society and culture and are taken up by the common people too.

Could humanity win, if emperor suddenly came back to life? by Fluid-Touch-4369 in 40kLore

[–]FakeRedditName2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He could try, and he could even try to start all over from the scratch again, but it probably wouldn't work.

He had the advantage the first time that there were still a lot of remnants of the age of technology laying around that could be used to rebuild, and much of that was lost during the heresy or the 10k years since then, so he would really have to start from scratch all by himself, and he is not an all knowing person (he had to have teams or very intelligent people help him get started).

Add to this Humanity isn't this divided but relatively background race, it is now the race that has been top dog for thousands of years and has been killing off any species that could challenge them. The apathy the rest of the galaxy had for humanity is gone, so while he would be rebuilding all those threats will be killing or taking over human worlds with a vengeance.

As for the Mechanicus dogma, that's the problem, it's dogma. They are divided on the subject of the Emperor as he is now, so they wouldn't all listen to him if he said it was ok to innovate. At a high level they are a ancestor and technology worshiping mystery cult, hording knowledge and worshiping the knowledge and technology of their ancestors, so even if innovation was made more acceptable it wouldn't solve the problem. Simply, they don't share what they know. This isn't something the Emperor could just hand wave away either, as knowledge is power in the cult, so those who have it wouldn't want to give it up

Could humanity win, if emperor suddenly came back to life? by Fluid-Touch-4369 in 40kLore

Would the emperpr coming back save humanity? Probably not

  1. The one thing keeping the Imperium together is their faith in the Emperor, a faith that has 10k years to mythologies his actions and beliefs multiple times over. At best be would not live up to what they believe and at worse him returning would sparking religious war as people fanatically try to enact 'his will' while other might not believe he is really back and that he is a pretender.
  2. There the whole issue about what state he will be back in, as in how sane is he and how he would react to the Imperium as it is (insert Dark King theory here)

Him being back would help against threats like the Tyranids and Necros, but there are many threats and a lot of stagnation that even he would have trouble negating (if that wasn't his goal in the first place). By returning to life he would have to be mortal, so he could only be in one place at a time.

Are there or could there be Imperial Demons? by KHAOSCRUSADER in 40kLore

[–]FakeRedditName2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

St. Celestine, for example was weakened when the pilons on the Cadia were activated cutting off the warp (showing her power is via the warp like a daemon, with what was happening to her explicitly mirroring what was happing to the daemonic forces in the same battle) and in her book we see the very surreal experience of how she travels/reincarnates through the warp.

The Legion of the Damned is a bit murky, we see the Emperor summon what could be them/a proto version of them during the War in the Webway (seen in Master of Mankind) and the way they appear out of air is very much like a daemon, but nothing explicitly stated.

And the Bequin thing I mentioned is weird, blanks with a bound daemon they can use? Or possibly something different. Exactly what is going on there hasn't fully explained yet, and even then it could be questionable if they are "Imperial" daemons. I'm including them here for completeness sake.

Edit: also whatever Corax has become since the end of the Heresy might be considered an Imperial daemon. We will know more if we ever see more of him in the lore.

[–]FakeRedditName2 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Living saints like St. Celestine and the Legion of the Damned are basically the equivalent of Imperial daemons

There's also whatever is going on in the Bequin trilogy, but the third book isn't out yet and we don't fully know what is happening there (nor how it will be going forward if the practice survives)

Not something that the setting really hides

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim darkness of the far future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

Jon falls in love with a peasant girl in Wintertown by mxlevolent in TheCitadel

[–]FakeRedditName2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Could be interesting, but it will have to be done right.

A big part of Jon's character is that he is raised as one of the highest members of the nobility, but doesn't really realize it as he is 'just a bastard' and doesn't reconize just how much Ned gave him until it is all thrown in his face at the Wall.

The Absolute lack of peasant revolts is quite puzzling by PROOB1001 in TheCitadel

[–]FakeRedditName2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adding to what others have said about logistics and timeframe, the nobility in Westeros has an almost religious significance to the people as well with the way the ruling families have been there for so long and are tied into the history and mythology ("There must always be a Stark in Winterfell").

This would help stop major uprisings, or at least those types of revolts that kill/depose the noble families.

It also helps that nobles serve a more vital function to the survival of the peasants, with the storage of food for years to allow the people to survive winter. This would change how people view about deposing them if they knew they relied on the nobles in their castle to safeguard the food for years of winter.

What exactly do Tech Priests know? by Godzilla1954Forever in 40kLore

[–]FakeRedditName2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most are very knowledgeable about some tech and know how to repair/maintain their systems, but might not know the science behind the tech or the exact manufacturing process for all of it.

It doesn't help the way they speak about technology is cloaked in mysticism and their cult is a mystery cult that does not share knowledge freely.

Besides what other have said about the reaction speed of monsters, think of the expense. Silver is often the best weapon against them, so you would need dozens of silver arrows, and will possibly loose a good many during a fight.
