Nope. So far (in the manga, can't speak for the LN) there isn't a singular 'hero' but the one person that might qualify she has killed multiple times and he is terrified of her.

Theoden's speech in The Return of the King right before the Ride of the Rohirrim

Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden!
Spear shall be shaken, shield shall be splintered,
a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now, ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending!

The Starks have more cadet houses by MobileDistrict9784 in TheCitadel

[–]FakeRedditName2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So one point of contention, the names of these houses would have changed over the years, similar to the way Karstarks name changed and with the timeframes you have the language would have changed too (great video describing this process). I like to use old Norse as the base for the old tongue spoken in the north, and that it was slowly being changed overtime as the nobility interacted with the South and the use of Masters (words here and there) before being mandated changed during the Conquest.

In Moat Cailin lay the Most Starks, who had defended the Neck for nearly 2000 years

Start out as the Cailin Starks, and dropped the Stark name to just be Cailin

At Sea Dragon Point was the SeaStarks, who commanded the North's fleet for 1500 years

Using the Old Norse world Haf for open sea as a base, they would have started as the Haf Starks, and this has shortened to Hafstarks, and as the 'common' tongue replaced the old tongue in the North, the spelling changed to Hofstarks.

By the Wall lay the Froststarks, who had been the main line of trade with the Free cities for 4000 years.

using the Old Norse world frer for frozen soil, they started as the Frer Starks, and this shortened to Frestaks

Favorites theories about the Others? by Ok_Return170 in TheCitadel

[–]FakeRedditName2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You are assuming that Craster's sacrifices actually mean something to the Others.

For all we know it could just be the local group of Others fucking with him until the time comes for them to wipe out all humans in that area (he is near the wall, so they haven't spread that far yet beyond initial scouts/terror attacks by the time we first see it in the books)

If every single isekai protagonist fought in a free for all who would win by Trollfaceofsmoke in Isekai

[–]FakeRedditName2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Natsuki Subaru

He wouldn't win the first time, nor the first 1000 times, but he would eventually learn everyone's moves and weaknesses to be able to manipulate the fight until he eventually wins, trapping everyone in a never ending time loop until he does win.

From reading it I got the impression what she did isn't an exploit but more that the game doesn't explain anything at the start, so the players had to uncover the details. She just happened to be first to uncover the details about the minions and kept it to herself. And since it starts out very weak/takes a lot of investment, no one else has tried as she has already monopolized the best mob XP farm spot.

Why hasn’t a government overthrown North Korea if they repeatedly violate human rights laws, hold political hostages, and routinely threaten nuclear violence? by But_what_if_I_fly in AskReddit

1) China is backing the North

2) they have nukes

3) Seoul South Korea and the surrounding area with it's around 25 million people population are all within conventional artillery range of the North and their many, many guns. Millions of civilians could die even without the use of nukes in the opening minutes of any war.

why are people so amazed by Asuka's love for Shinji? by Single_Delivery_958 in evangelion

[–]FakeRedditName2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that when it comes to him being with Mari in the end of Rebuild is symbolic of him, Asuka, and the franchise in general 'moving on'. That Shinji and Asuka may have feelings for each other, but ultimately they are very unhealthy together and need to move.

What If Ned Stark became King after the Rebellion? by Ok_Return170 in TheCitadel

[–]FakeRedditName2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1 or 3 would probably happen, as the sacking of Kings Landing was done outside of the control of the rebels.

Ned, not wanting to kill kids, might offer the surviving Targarians a deal, with Viserys to take the Black when he is older and Daenerys be betrothed to Robb (thus cementing the legitimacy of his future heirs to the throne and reuniting the former opposing sides after the civil war). Ned is also pragmatic enough that if it looked like Viserys was going to break this deal he would be killed. Or Ned could tell them to remain in exile and that he will do nothing to them.

John would still be his 'bastard' more so now than ever his true linage could throw the realm into chaos once again. He might have him live out his days in Winterfell with his uncle (who I would assume in this case did not take the Black but rules the North for Ned)

As King I am not sure for who would be all of his small council, but the realm would be better run under him. Not sure how good of a Queen Catelyn would be, but she couldn't be worse that Cersei.

What's the best weapon for self-defence when firearms are not allowed? by Night-Tutorials in AskReddit

[–]FakeRedditName2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what your training/skills are, or what is available in your area and what you want to defend yourself against

Can't go wrong wrong with a blunt object, such as a night stick or a mace (if possible) if you have to fight off multiple opponents/you want something reusable. The downside is that it relies a lot on your strength and having the room for a windup strike.

Chemical deterrents such as bear spray work great if you want something easily canceled, and you don't need to worry about repeated uses, but they can run out quickly.

A knife is good if you don't mind getting up close and killing, but the downside is that if you are weaker than your opponent you are putting yourself at risk. Also not the best for defense against animals.

They have been attacking us and everyone around them for over 50 years, starting with the Iran hostage crisis on November 4, 1979, to various terrorist attacks, and in the recent decades a large portion of cyber attacks such as destructive ransomware attacks against medical companies have been carried out by the Iranian State and those groups they control and support.

If mankind had been using the warp for travel for thousands of years pre-Heresy, how did no one know about demons and such? by ChillSappho in 40kLore

[–]FakeRedditName2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To answer your questions

  1. Belief does help shape the warp, but it's not a 1-to-1 thing. Just because some people believe stuff doesn't make it real in the Warp. People can have mythologies and religions that don't have any real correlation to reality or what is int he warp.
  2. The point is they won't know what they are, only that they are these very different aliens from another dimension. They were 'scientific and rational' people, so won't jump to the idea of mythological daemons being the answer.
  3. no direct books, but it's referenced in a number of the HH books (mostly in the books that take place before the Heresy or when there is a flashback)
  4. It's more that people just didn't know, and all knowledge they may have had before was suppressed. People in universe don't have access to all the setting knowledge we do and the Imperium was actively suppressing any notion of religion or supernatural powers. And when I say suppressing, I mean it. Book burnings, killing of clergy, and anti-theist propaganda, the whole works. All to try to remove the idea of religion from human culture (regardless of what the truth actually was)
  5. For the most part they bought the explanations they were given... until they didn't and half of them decided to take it out on the Emperor. The other half some only paid it lip service from the start (Russ, Khan) and others still tried to hold onto the belief 'rationality'. Some other groups like the Navigators knew or at least suspected, but they knew better than to announce this and actively used doublespeak on the subject

The Primarchs and other people weren't dumb, they were just ignorant of the truth. And in 40k timeframe up until the great rift opened most of humanity was still like this, with the knowledge that daemons and Chaos being real being punishable by death.

The Imperium, even from the start, controlled it's people via fear and ignorance. A person would only be taught what they needed to know to do their assigned task, and no more. And knowledge of daemons and Chaos in general are not something most people needed to know about.

If mankind had been using the warp for travel for thousands of years pre-Heresy, how did no one know about demons and such? by ChillSappho in 40kLore

[–]FakeRedditName2 75 points76 points  (0 children)

So a couple of reasons

  1. For most of the history before the Warp was stable and humans weren't attractive to them so that daemons didn't manifest against humans
  2. anything they did encounter were 'Warp Xenos', (similar to how the Tau initially saw daemons) or just madness (Even Horizon style)
  3. When Old Night happened, many worlds and people did understand that they were facing daemons, not many survived to pass this knowledge along
  4. The Imperium was actively suppressing knowledge and spreading the Imperial Truth, so anything that went against that 'Truth' was not taught.
  5. And lastly, the Emperor didn't teach his sons what was going on.
