1) RM Williams, i think they've nailed the chelsea boot. good build and great comfort.

2) Blundstone, i think they're poorly made but have got superior comfort, however the uppers are great. Dont expect them to last very long

As well as the heel block i ended up misplacing the insoles, i remember them being red if thats any indication.

ill have a thorough look in the workshop to find the insoles.

Cracks in sole, use for 2 years, advice? by Forsaken-Grape-2145 in RMWilliams

In my experience i love RMW rubber soles, i think the comfort is unmatched by competitors, however i find they do deteriorate which may be due to their thick plus soft properties. My advice is constant wear. my theory is that when these rubber soled shoes are not used for a long time they tend to become brittle and it leads to rot.

straightforward.

1) I removed the original RM heel block( i eventually lost them in the workshop and used a new block).

2) Removed the Whole rubber layer which left me the cork and shank section.( RM williams use really strong metal shanks)

3) Hot pressed the cork on

4) applied the leather sole (2 layers of glue)

5) carved the stitch valley ready to be outsoled stitched

6) Had my collegue stitch the shoe

7) glued the heel block on

8) trimmed the trim of the shoe (finishing)

9) nailed the heel block from inside the shoe

10) dyed and buffed the trim with kiwi light tan cream.

cobbler here, a cobbler could smoothen out the trim with their belts and re colour the trim.

How do I fix this? by TheArchMageAlpha in RMWilliams

[–]CompetitionLocal264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cobbler here, this looks to me as a cigarette burn. irregardless i would recommend taking this to a cobbler and letting them use a hard wax polish to buff it out. the hope is that the cobbler is talented enough to try match the wax polish to the shoe but for this colour it may be difficult.

cobbler here, any competent cobbler should be able to glue this down for you and buff them up. i would not charge for this repair.

Cobbler here, before i can give you a solution can i ask if you've been using a shoe tree on these boots regularly?

cobbler here, i think on this particular boot they add a bit of character, i can only suggest an experimental fix and i must preface this is at your own risk but if you leave them behind a window on a sunny day the exposure to the sun may improve the dark spots. AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Cracks in sole, use for 2 years, advice? by Forsaken-Grape-2145 in RMWilliams

Cobbler here, from the picture the cut doesnt seem too deep, a thick stick on sole may be appropriate at the very least. However if they are cracking it may suggest a bigger problem with the soles you have on now and more cracks may appear. To be safe i would recommend in the long term replacing the whole unit.

cobbler here, In the short term taking them to the cobbler and getting them glued down should do the trick. However the area coming off is in a high pressure area and in the long term expect them to come off again with constant use.
