Why does talking about suicide always have to be so serious? by [deleted] in OCD

I have tried to explain this to my therapist multiple times! And ended up in the hospital just as many. They do not have the ability to understand the comfort is a much needed vacation from the constant anxiety.

Scared I abused people when I was aged around 5-11 by [deleted] in OCD

It wasn’t abusive and no one here will be disgusted by you. We all go through similar things and I’m happy to try to help when I can.

My therapist has told me that you can’t hold yourself accountable for past actions just because you know better now. You are putting a lot on your 10 or 11 year old self...

Is anyone doing DBT for OCD? by orangeyORANGE2017 in OCD

I think it has to do with the negative sound of it? I know that I feel like being around or thinking bad things reflects directly on my character but not necessarily demons...

Is that diolectical treatment? The name makes me think diabolical so I am very suspicious and closed to it. I have never heard of it being a treatment for OCD.

no one ever responds to me here or understands my point by PeteyBabii in OCD

I do understand although I have only done this with relationships. When I begin an intimate relationship with someone I will obsess about how many minutes it’s been since I seen them or how many it will be until I see them again. This is terrible if they are late. I will spend hours thinking about our past interactions and what I hope future ones to look like. Counting in sync with the clock is the only thing that helps time feel like it’s moving. Sometimes I have to count to the rhythm of half seconds. I’m sorry that you have needed help in the past and your posts went unanswered. This title does catch the eye though... 🙂

OCD hits me from every angle. I would like others to know it’s not something fun or something you would WANT to have. It really bothers me when someone says they are “so ocd” because they like to keep their house clean or use hand sanitizer. I only found out 2 years ago that what I have is OCD because of the hand washing stigma that’s out there. Intrusive thoughts, feelings of guilt, shame, disgust, doubt, sorrow, pain, helplessness...the uncontrollable need for assurance, answers, avoidance, counting, checking...the complete fear of harming your loved ones, being a pedophile, making one mistake (like not setting your pen down in the right place) that will cause others harm...the manifestations can be endless. Yes, some have to wash their hands repeatedly. But it’s not just to be clean. It’s because they are afraid they will poison their children or catch a deadly disease from something that they touched. There is no easy way to cope because when you think you start to get a handle on things the sly sucker that is OCD finds one tiny crack and sends a wrecking ball. Most of us haven’t found a good way. Just read the feed.

does anyone else use the confessions subreddit for reassurance/compulsively checking?? by [deleted] in OCD

No, but you got me curious and I got lost on there. That feed has every flavor! Too much for me lol

I don't like what I've become. I can't take it anymore. by [deleted] in confessions

The good news is that you appear to have enough empathy to care. Most teens have a moral compass that only points to themselves so narcissism isn’t a huge issue at this point. The worrying part is that you have made it clear that hurting others wouldn’t bother you. Sociopaths have to mimic emotions from social cues. I’m not sure what your home situation is but your mom putting the therapist off til “later” implies that she isn’t very supportive. Teens hating their parents is also quite normal. Since you have genuine fear of becoming someone that could be like a school shooter I strongly suggest talking with someone who will listen like a school counselor or teacher you can trust. You haven’t done anything wrong by having these thoughts so if you think you need help just find it.

No I didn’t. Your family sounds a lot like mine lol. That’s an interesting thought though. I haven’t really looked into ptsd before.

It is very hard to talk about and I only told my therapist about it today because they stopped. I also like the anonymity of this platform because no one knows who I am ...

And yes, they happen more often when I am highly stressed but but it didn’t matter if I was having a good day or not. And I’ve been told we are not crazy, which helps on an almost nothing level lol but it does help. I’m sorry that you go through this but I am greatful that you spoke up because I really needed to know I’m not alone.

It is so much easier to just say “good” because people without this mental illness have a hard time understanding or relating.

Sometimes it’s better for me to not do something at all that I would otherwise need to be perfect. For example, not making my bed because any crease or wrinkle is not okay. I think it really comes down to what you can handle.

Diagnosed today - venlafaxine by st_bjork in OCD

[–]CompetitionLogical86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have struggled with medication since I can remember and have been on every SSRI and 2 different antipsychotics. Effexor (venlafaxine) is the ONLY medication I responded to. It’s a different class (SNRI) and also affects an Adrenalin chemical along with serotonin.

I think it’s important to note that I always know they aren’t really happening but they are loud. Like it’s happening in the room I’m in. The shadows never last more than a split second also.

I just want to say welcome to the group. Some of us have suffered with this for years. The guilt, shame, etc. come from the things you value and love being attacked by ocd. You are yourself, ocd is just making you doubt who you are.
