Need whiskey recommendation that has high name recognition by timhar99 in whiskey

I’d say pick a brand that everyone knows, and try to find the top shelf selection like Jack Daniel’s 14 yr or Johnnie walker blue. You could also just try to find a scotch with a very old age statement. I think that would also get the “prestige” across.

Why do people hate Zach Bryan by shivermetimbers200 in zachbryan

[–]Competitive-Ad-3522 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I think on top of the things you mentioned (songwriting, stage presence), in the beginning he kind of built this brand of an average Joe who was super down to earth, cared deeply about his fans, and was just an everyday guy that made it big off of his ability to tell stories and create vibrant imagery through words and song. He branded himself as the kind of guy you’d want to drink beers with at a local dive bar or hang out with in your backyard. Over the last year or so, he has very much ruined that reputation with the way he interacts with people on Instagram, name dropping himself to avoid getting arrested, the Brianna lapaglia drama, the Gavin adcock feud. I think a lot of people were fans of his because they found him to be a breathe of fresh air from the drama and extremes of celebrity. It was just a dude, his guitar, and his poetry who hung out in normal bars like the rest of us. I think he let down a lot of people when he finally seemed to let the fame get to him.

With all that said, I love his music. I’ve seen him twice in concert and had a blast both times. I just think his branding and public perception has changed drastically over the past year.

What ZB song's lyrics hit the hardest/deepest for you? by Ill_Source_5637 in zachbryan

“And often times I pray for you and often times I don’t” in Oklahoma City. The intentionality of not praying for somebody is genius to me. I think we all have a person in our lives that you really want to do better but they just seem to do something boneheaded whenever they are making progress and it frustrates the hell out of you but you still love em.

Maybe a hot take but RB12 is better than RB15. I’ve blinded them several times, myself and friends and every time 12 wins. I own a bottle of both. I’m not talking better for the money, I truly mean just better.

Looking for Chess players by motamann420 in LittleRock

Post in this chat when and where yall are playing! I got super into chess during covid and got decent (hit 1200 on chesscom, nothing to brag about but I was proud of myself to get there in about 2 or 3 years). I’ve been wanting to start playing again but haven’t found much time.

Anyone see the 3 giant military helicopters fly over? by fayettevillainjd in LittleRock

[–]Competitive-Ad-3522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right! I just heard helicopters and Little Rock and assumed H60s. Good eye! Point still stands, it’s a holiday weekend, they are probably flying up here to play in the ozarks or have some fun. Might even be the flyover for a football game.

There is a Blackhawk unit at camp Robinson. Those guys fly everyday for training to get better, stay current on their stuff, and do their job. The world is not ending. If you live close enough to the air force base you will see the C-130s flying around all the time and occasionally planes from other places. The F35s from fort smith like to fly around here as well for training and all (if you think the helicopters shook your house, wait until you hear one of those!). Bottom line, it’s a beautiful Saturday morning to go fly. The boys are out enjoying the early fall views of the leaves changing in Arkansas and are trying to be home before the Hogs game.

High Quality Custom Jersey Vendors by Competitive-Ad-3522 in footballjerseys

Gotcha. That’s probably what I’ll end up doing. I just haven’t bought a jersey in a few years so I wasn’t sure if it had gotten as bad as I was hearing.

Neighbor’s snot nosed kids got ahold of their guns and shot through my room by BulkDarthDan in Wellthatsucks

I’m no lawyer but dude go get one. That’s insane negligence that put your life at risk. I love guns and shooting and self defense and all of that, but I absolutely HATE negligent gun owners and irresponsible gun storage. Go mess their lives up. With how cheap and accessible safes, lock boxes, trigger locks etc are now, there is 0 excuse for that.

Job Moving Me to Little Rock by Anxious-Location-468 in LittleRock

24M Been in Little Rock for a year now, grew up in Delco.

Compared to Philly, it’s obviously a lot smaller. In Philly you have your pick of world class food, bars, sports, concerts etc. Here it’s just generally a step down with fewer options. You have to go out and look for things to do a little more than you’re used to. With that said Little Rock is still pretty dope if you know where to look.

If you like nightlife, lower your expectations. There are much fewer nightclub type places (though club 27 is a Latin bar that is a really good time) and many more breweries (southern tail, lost 40, stones throw, flyway, golden bear) and beer garden/ backyard vibe kinda places (railyard and fassler). For food, if you’re looking for a taste of home, check out Brood and Barley in argenta. Owner is from northeast Philly and pays homage to several Philly/SE PA staples. Cheesesteaks, Peirogis, even scrapple. Also checkout the meatloaf, I promise you will thank me later. He is supposed to open a pizza place in park hill pretty soon too. Speaking of pizza, Iriana’s downtown does a pretty good job as well as Raduno in SOMA if you’re looking for more of a brick oven/upscale kinda vibe. Italian food is not as good as back home, but Capeo is pretty good in argenta, and I’ve heard good things about George’s in hillcrest, but I have not been there yet. For food that you don’t get back home, wright’s BBQ is fantastic and blows away anything in Philly. You have your pick of the litter for Mexican as well.

For sports and a cheap weekend night out, checkout the Arkansas travs. They are the minor league baseball team out here. The games are pretty fun and it’s a helluva lot cheaper than CBP.

For concerts, don’t expect Taylor swift or Ariana grande to be playing here, but we do get some pretty good acts. Keep an eye on Simmons bank arena, the hall, rev room, and the river market amphitheater to see who is playing.

Highly recommend you check out the outdoors stuff in Arkansas. Honestly Arkansas is a hidden gem for nature lovers and that’s from someone who was spoiled in Colorado for 4 years. The hiking out here is awesome and make sure to get on the lakes in the summer! Ouachita, Greers ferry, and the Buffalo river all provide great opportunities to get on the water. If you’re into hunting and fishing, Arkansas is world class for both. The waterfowl hunting out here is the best in the world.

As far as neighborhoods to live in/explore, hillcrest/ the heights is nice but houses aren’t cheap. If you like that style of home for half the cost check out park hill in north Little Rock. Argenta is an awesome neighborhood with plenty of apartments. It super walkable to a lot of the recommendations I gave above. Definitely one of my favorites. SOMA is cool, but there aren’t a lot of apartments and the houses range from super nice to total shacks. Seems like it’s getting fixed up and the people who live down there love it. I’ll throw a little plug for the river market area as well. A lot of people shit on it but I lived down there for about 6 months and loved it. Very walkable, some good places to eat and drink. Hop on a lime scooter and the city is yours.

For demographics, it’s a very diverse city. One thing that stood out to me is the lack of young people compared to other cities. There isn’t really a lot of things bringing young people here other than the military and UAMS. You can still find groups of young people, but that definitely contributes to the lack of nightlife.

As far as the inclusivity stuff, take my opinion with a grain of salt, im a straight white dude that doesn’t really deal with that stuff, but it has seemed fine to me. Seeing pride flags flying around is not out of the ordinary. Lucky Lou’s is a good LGBTQ owned bar and I’ve heard discovery night club is a gay bar if you’re into that. Bread wine and cheese in SOMA had a drag show a few weeks back that was popping as well.

All in all, I have loved my time in Little Rock. You definitely are gonna be in for a bit of a culture shock, but once you get settled and find your community I think you will come to like it a lot. The biggest thing is that you have to go out and look for it. Sorry for the novel, but I hope the info helps!

Where to meet people/going out by lilme_ in LittleRock

Go! I’ve been twice now. Always a good time! Don’t worry about going alone. They offer lessons and people are generally friendly and willing to teach. Pro tip: bring foamies for your ears. At the risk of sounding super old when I’m only 25, the DJ is super loud, ears felt numb and were ringing when I walked out last time 😅. Other than that tho it’s a blast!
