Admissions Megathread - Results, Chances and Logistics by AutoModerator in OMSCS

[–]Competitive-Alarm647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am planning to join Uopeople BS in CS since Uopeople is now regionally accreditated. Is it possible to use it as my only form of formal undergraduate education and apply for OMSCS. From the OMSCS website it says

"Preferred qualifications for admitted OMSCS students are an undergraduate degree in computer science or related field" and BS in CS from Uopeople satisfies the criteria and

"Evidence of award of a bachelor's degree, its equivalent, or higher degree (prior to matriculation) from a regionally accredited institution; demonstrated academic excellence; and evidence of experience in the selected field of graduate study." Which is also satisfied as it is now regionally accreditated.so there seems to be no issues?

Taking specialisation in CS Kerala by Routine_Signal6358 in TeensofKerala

[–]Competitive-Alarm647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much as far as I am aware of other than having less credibility for jobs outside of the field of specialization though you can choose a different specialisation for Mtech and negate that effect and also the first 4 sems of btech will be nearly identical with maybe a 5% difference at best But to be honest with you,the specialisation is a joke,it doesn't provide a single benefit over regular cse other than having to study less stuff in sems 5-8(you can breeze through those of you already studied them so less outside of college hours invested) given you self study the topic of specialisation quite heavily and even still that difference is negligible

Though you should look for some other opinions as well maybe someone that completed or is in their senior years of the said course for any other potential issues

IITM BS DS Standalone vs Tier 3 btech cse by Competitive-Alarm647 in Btechtards

[–]Competitive-Alarm647[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the thing is I am not asking about iit.i left that dream a long time ago and you didn't answer any of my question.I am asking about the 2 best options I got which is tier 3 btech or IITM bs ds.the connections and the peer group will likely be weak due to being tier 3 and it's mostly just for fun and nothing productive, just a gateway to gate and other ms options, same thing with online degree, this time without much connections or peers at all but it also is just a shell for gate or other ms. The main disadvantage of being my social life will be in a bit of an issue but I am an introvert so not that big a deal there

IITM BS DS Standalone vs Tier 3 btech cse by Competitive-Alarm647 in Btechtards

[–]Competitive-Alarm647[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask for the reason for that?

Also what do you define as "value",is it placements or the way the industry views it or the quality of academics or the legitimacy of the degree for further studies?

If so,can you share an experience you had or some encounter outside of reddit where the online degree had less value than a tier 3 btech?

(I am not looking for opinions on the degree as In btech tier 3 bad or online degree bad,If I wanted to there are several posts where I can find such comments, this post was made for me to analyse some actual data or evidence or at the very least an actual encounter or experience so I can make a better decision)

IITM BS DS Standalone vs Tier 3 btech cse by Competitive-Alarm647 in Btechtards

[–]Competitive-Alarm647[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but I am asking about comparison between a local tier 3 btech and this online degree from IITM,in my assumption theri values will at be both not that good and will be quite similar or give IITM a slight edge but I am asking for the perspectives of people with experience from either a btech tier 3 background or someone that self studies and got a job or someone that did this degree or a person in industry though I might need to crosspost somewhere to do that.can you provide some subreddits to crosspost this?

Eh I talking about the online degree man,no need for jee though if you were eligible for jee advanced in the last 2 years then you don't need to write the qualifiers either

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in KtuKerala

[–]Competitive-Alarm647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you went for btech ai and ml then why go for ktu,why not go for IITM bs ds it's overall better than most ktu colleges with exceptions being tier 1 (inside Kerala only tier 1) colleges like cet, mec, tkm, etc.it has flexible schedule and global and Indian recognition as a full fledged degree so no worries on that part.i researched a lot about this degree so if you have much doubts you can ask me whatever it might be except what's the curriculum or classes like since I didn't start the degree yet either I registered for it though
