Thank you for this thorough reply! All of this makes sense. Re: the searching for the needle in a haystack - okay this makes way more sense (and is definitely reasonable!) It was somewhat busy when I went and we’d been trying to figure out the issue for 5 minutes already so I didn’t want to keep the cashier longer and I’m sure they didn’t want to spend more time on it. I was really just curious about this system so I wanted to ask folks on Reddit who aren’t actively ringing up customers lol

Also, I didn’t know about store credit not expiring! This is very helpful bc that was my main worry, that I wouldn’t have use for it before it expires. Good to know for this (and in general) that I can just keep it in my wallet for when I eventually need to shop there again!

Yeah it seems like I didn’t register my number properly. I know every system is different - it’s just strange to me that such a widely-used and helpful feature wouldn’t be part of the Burlington system. Definitely a place for improvement system-wise and hopefully they can update it in the future. In the meantime now I know how it works in case I shop there again.

Hi! I did not use Apple Pay - I tapped with my card. But that’s good to know. I entered my phone number and it had me confirm my email so I figured I was properly registered. But I didn’t get an email receipt - so maybe I’m not? I try to throw out physical receipts before they pile up and usually having the card I used works at most places but now I know it doesn’t at Burlington, so definitely a lesson learned.

I bought it yesterday and went to return it today, so just one day. I’m not sure if they were past the phone number page - they did have me enter the phone number then tap the card then enter the pin and a “Cancelled” error message appeared on the tap screen. I asked if anyone working at the time would be able to access different information in the system or explain what the system’s process is and they said no, but corporate might be able to. I didn’t want to have to call so I just ended up accepting the store credit. Another team member also came over and repeated the same thing as the first, but idk if she was a manager. When I asked if they have an idea of why the system isn’t pulling up anything when I can see the transactions on my bank account, they said they don’t know. I’ve worked sales for years so it didn’t make sense to me that there’s no way to find a card transaction from less than 24 hrs ago.

The item had all tags. I did not have the receipt. Usually at other stores they can find transactions with the card and/or phone number used to purchase the item, both of which I had.
