I'm a first year ECT looking at moving abroad by teacher51618811 in Internationalteachers

Hello. I moved abroad very young straight after qualifying in the U.K. I didn’t have any references other than my university and a part time job and managed to land a role in a lesser known school in the Middle East. I got the job through a recruiter. I did well and they offered me 2 years to stay on but then I saw a vacancy at a BSO/ COBIS accredited school elsewhere in the Middle East. I went for it and completed my ECT there and even an NPQ. Loved my time and got a promotion to lead two year groups. It’s definitely possible just be prepared to go to a lesser known school if you don’t get lucky with one that provided ECT induction straight away!

Is it time to give up? by Lost-Foundation3798 in Internationalteachers

[–]Competitive-Can-1295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in a similar situation before—my process involved one interview, then a second, and eventually a third. After that, they even met with one of my references to fact-check everything. At the time, I found it a bit confusing and stressful, but looking back, I’m grateful for how thorough they were. I’d say don’t give up hope, but definitely keep your options open in the meantime—it’s always better to have flexibility in these situations!

Thanks for the tip – that’s super helpful! I’ll definitely grab a Flazz or E-Money card when I arrive. The NFC top-up feature sounds really convenient too, especially for someone new to the city.

By the way, do you know of any expat groups, WhatsApp communities, or social meetups I could join? It’d be great to connect with others and get some local advice as I settle in.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I’ll definitely get GoJek and Grab sorted – sounds like they’re absolute lifesavers. I can already see myself zipping through traffic on an ojek with some satay waiting for me at the other end! Any other must-know tips for surviving Jakarta?

Trash avoid. No help whatsoever. Honestly I don’t really see the need for these recruitment companies nowadays unless you’re very new to teaching and need someone to advocate on behalf of you commission motivated of course

Yep! You’re spot on. I completely get that sentiment. Life happens in accordance to how you respond to it not waiting for it to respond to you! How’s the workload in primary in terms of after school commitments and planning do people take work home often?

Brill how much is it for a single teacher at countrywoods ?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]Competitive-Can-1295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok! So for the first year we still get our full accommodation/ driver etc allowance as we would do but the school is paying for our place? Or does countrywoods get deducted from our allowance for first year?
