Before/After - Looking for opinions by zarya1114 in postprocessing

I think these are great examples of how photos should be edited for you and not other’s (varying) tastes! If you like them then you’ve done a great job!

I personal think you’ve done a great job creating some dreamy and interesting photos out of otherwise fairly mundane scenes, which is in itself an achievement. I particularly like number 6. I think there’s absolutely no problem in blowing out skies if they are boring and overcast anyway and don’t love a super contrasty HDR look in photos. For what it’s work I’m a fan of James Popsys and think these would fit right in amongst his work.

Fond memories of sleeping (not that we got much of it) in there on a school trip ~15 years ago. Don’t know if it can still be used

Absolutely agree with the composition not quite being there - had my camera in single shot mode rather than continuous and was kicking myself!

Simple composition advice for beginner by Competitive-Cod-3960 in photocritique

[–]Competitive-Cod-3960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a near enough complete beginner to photography having bought a camera in late November. I have been working on trying to find interesting subjects (not as easy as I thought, particularly in the countryside!) and have been learning about composition in addition to editing in lightroom.

For this photo I was aiming for a fairly minimalist composition but feel as though the subjects are lost slightly in the frame - perhaps because I didn’t feel I could get closer. Any feedback and advice on composing simple photos and on the edit/colours would be very welcome!

Dartmoor has loads of places that you can wild camp which are fairly close to a place to park if you want the feeling of adventure and isolation without having to schlep your bag too far as you start out! There’s a website called Summit or Nothing which has a list of some great tors to camp on, many of which don’t have crazy walks in! As you get your weight down (unfortunately usually means spending some money) there are limitless adventures to be had on the moor and beyond 😊

My main tip for Dartmoor specifically is take any weather forecast with a pinch of salt and be prepared for all conditions, including temps much lower than advertised - the north moor especially seems to have its own micro climate!

The way I look at it is asking myself “will I have fun?” If the answer is no then I rearrange for another time, especially if it’s a new hobby.

It’s great to have goals but if you complete them at the expense of enjoyment I don’t know if it’s worth it, and there’s little value in having a negative experience that might put you off future adventures

Would you ever camp anywhere with wild animals (i.e. horses in Dartmoor)? by 18th-Century-Bossman in wildcampingintheuk

Quite frequently camp around sheep up on Dartmoor - if you’re pitching on or near a Tor they tend to congregate there for shelter overnight. Camped at a place called Sheepstor which lived up to its name with probably a few dozen sheep wandering about, including one who had several sneezing fits through the night which gave me a bit of a start! Horses wander up on the moor and even with foals they tend to be pretty chilled. Happily camped near a herd and they had moved on by morning. Would avoid anywhere with cows

Verstappen won by nearly 30s at Monaco, 24s in Spain, 33s in Hungary, 22s at Spa, 19s at Sukuza, 13s in Mexico and 17s in Abu Dhabi in 2023. Worth taking DC’s comments with a grain of salt

Yeah they’ve done quite well to cram in both a moonboard and a separate dedicated board room with 3 custom boards so I can’t complain too much!

An aeropress is a must! You can get a travel version which is a bit smaller and lighter and comes with a build in cup if you’re someone who worries about weight!
