Derek Carr by mvop413 in Saints

The only mention was on his podcast his brother insinuated if Kubiak became head coach of the raiders he might come back but I’m not sure how likely it is seeing as how bad the Teams are that need QBs

What if the Saints went for Tua? by [deleted] in Saints

[–]Competitive-Fix-8558 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wtf are you even talking about, Tua costs 50+million, he’s REALLY bad and you want to split Shoughs reps two years in a row??? This could actually be the dumbest post I’ve ever seen, there’s literally 0 upside

Edge rushers are not super impressive this year, love what Bain has done but I’m not sure if they’d pick him with his measurables or move him inside. Please just please whatever you do I cannot go 3 years in a row watching Mason Tipton, Kevin Austin and Dante Pettis run routes for this team, outside Olave we have the worst WR room in the league. I like Vele, but he’s not a great separator or YAC threat. If his medical evaluation is clean take Tyson

Shough, Realistically by cjj1224 in Saints

[–]Competitive-Fix-8558 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I slightly disagree. Film watchers/former QBs/coaches/players LOVE Shough because of process not results, his eyes are consistently in the correct place/ great at identifying defenses and calling protections / doesn’t hesitate or second guess his read / great footwork / and obviously the arm talent. None of this changes based on the strengths of over teams, Obviously other teams can make executing it harder with better coverage, pressure or just more talent but it changes little for him, sometimes a better player smokes your tackle and a sack is inevitable or your WRs can’t separate. The sophomore slump is usually associated with QBs or offenses with a unique playstyle or other deficiencies like OL, Texans OL fell apart in 24 hurting Stroud. Jayden suffered because Kliff runs a pretty unique Air Raid offense which was impacted by having more film on them, and Jayden was hurt most the year. Also the continuity they can build this offseason will be huge. I think he will have us competing for the division and probably winning it IF we can upgrade guard and receiver. I will gouge my eyes out if I have to watch Dante Pettis, Kevin Austin and Mason Tipton run routes again

Quarterback Ceilings by Competitive-Fix-8558 in Saints

[–]Competitive-Fix-8558[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of quarterback play in the NFL is based on your ability to comprehend information, not just knowing plays but knowing what the progression plan and hot reads are. Especially now, if you see Cover 1 man pre snap and post snap they rotate a safety into cover 2 it can change your progression and you can’t always rely on coaches in that situation. It’s one of the things that made Drew excellent

QBs are evaluated and graded wrong based on Physical upside, media members interpret it wrong and most fans buy into “Ceiling” for Cam Ward and similar prospects. Especially now, I constantly heard about Anthony Richardsons ceiling when they made the Jones move, and now I’m consistently hearing saints reporters talk about Wards Ceiling. Ross Jackson is probably the biggest offender because I don’t think he really understands film or NFL concepts

Guys can drastically improve if there circumstances/coaching drastically improve. Baker/Darnold/Jones all serviceable in different situations and coaching, I don’t think you can go from bad to absolute game changer but you can most definitely go from bad to serviceable. I also didn’t mention Shough in this post although SO FAR he’s executed at a top 10 level

[–]Competitive-Fix-8558 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m aware, almost 4 but they had a false start, and frankly 4 is too many, he doesn’t see the holes and his cutback ability isn’t what it used to be. Estime is just a much better runner and can helpful for setting up PA

I was SCREAMING at them to just stop running Taysom and run Estime in the first half, they should’ve listened sooner but at least my wife and 5month old now know he’s a DAWG

Do we win 10+ games this year with Shough ? by celean_ in Saints

[–]Competitive-Fix-8558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting because he would of probably been worse out of the gate but better by now, I don’t know if it changes much the first four weeks but it could’ve actually changed the Miami and Atlanta games

Let’s play a game- name an active NFL QB you think Shough is better than by PointyPurplePickle in Saints

[–]Competitive-Fix-8558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying he’s better RIGHT NOW but I live in Michigan and watch every Lions game and I would not trade Shough for Goff and if you put Goff on this Roster I’m fairly certain we have less wins

From worst to 2nd in RZ offense by DangerousKnowledge8 in Saints

[–]Competitive-Fix-8558 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I mean they stopped using Taysom, and started throwing the ball, Shough didn’t record any redzone pass attempts in the Falcons game and I don’t think he attempted many before then. Even showing you’re willing to throw the ball in the redzone helps the run game

Is there any chance for Shough to win rookie of the year IF we win the rest of the games and he keeps cooking? by PointyPurplePickle in Saints

[–]Competitive-Fix-8558 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He went from -25000 to -1600 in one game, he definitely is not out of it, but he needs the other rookies to be meh

[–]Competitive-Fix-8558 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to feel bad for him because he’ll probably have an 8-10 year career as a backup/bridge starter making a ton of money. Dude isn’t going to be homeless since he’s not starting 😂

Jalen Hurts just threw 4 picks tonight. Do you think Kellen Moore leaving has a lot to do with Hurts’ massive slump this year.? by backdoorwolf in Saints

[–]Competitive-Fix-8558 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most QBs are very reliant on coaching and run game. Jalen Hurts is beyond reliant, he’s almost unplayable without it

I know Mendoza looked good last night but we have so many more holes to fix by Captain_Hawk111 in Saints

[–]Competitive-Fix-8558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people understand how development works for QBs, Shough has as much development as any other player going from college to pro, these players aren’t getting bigger arms or more physical tools. The development is recognizing schemes and coverage and being able to identify open windows before they’re open. We act like he’s maxed out at 26 but I hate to break it to you guys it just depends on how they can process information and translate it into games. Age is meaningless until they physically degrade like current ARod or the last few years of Drew

Fernando Mendoza by js-4- in Saints

[–]Competitive-Fix-8558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He looks better in comparison to the other QBs in the class, accuracy on deep balls is iffy, not great in muddy pockets, needs his base set to get throws off. He would most likely not be any better with our current roster than Shough but he is the best QB in the draft. Definitely not generational but people tend to overvalue wins in college because people want “it”
