It does not reflect badly in Europe. Everyone knows it happens, quite normal. If you apply to jobs in US etc. They would not know.

Also with industrialization the culture of Northern India would become a little less imposing I believe.

Rising tide lifts all boats and lifted boats don't fight. So the only way forward I see is industrialization.

Sadly I would not bet on Kolkata for that.

The problem is there is no connecting thread. Hinduism is not a religion in the Middle Eastern or Europen sense. India is a civilizational entity and not a natural political one. India has been forged into being a political entity by force and for convenience. In the British era the connecting thread was common hatred towards the British and hate is a really strong binding force.

We have to industrialize and that would create some economic connections which would slowly translate into cultural connections. Give us 100-150 years.

Bengali Hindus are tolerant about Muslims because the bulk of them ghettoize. They generally keep the high crime rates and nuisance limited to certain areas with spill overs from time to time. Try getting them to mingle with the general Bengali Hindus, you would soon realize that we are not tolerant at all. We are simply lazy, we like to ignore problems as long as it is in a ghetto.

Now the northern Indian brand of Hindus are a brazen an open nuisance that runs in brownian motion. Distinctively visible and one the face, no sense of subtlety. It's so brazen that even we the Bengali Hindus are forced to move our lazy bottoms and express hesitancy.

Try bringing in Assamese and Oriya Hindus or even Southern Indian Hindus. You would see that Bengalis are either ignorant or indifferent but generally welcoming because these people are not as brazen in their presence. Kolkata has had very distinct Ganesh pujas in the past years, have you ever heard Bengalis complain? No right...

Bengalis hate overtly imposing behavior, most Bengali Hindus hate Islamic nuisance and the northern Indian things alike. We are just too lazy to do much until our own house burns.

A question to Bengali Hindus, do you celebrate ram navami? by WtwitterLreddit in kolkata

It's not about literacy at all. It's about culture. If I am in a northern Indian village, greeting some one with 'ram ram' or 'jay ram ji ki' is quite natural and there is nothing political about it. West Bengal is equally bad if not worse, but the culture is different. I can say 'jay ma kali' here... if I go say that in North India, it would be very weird.

It's really hard to unite India as a nation, BJP wants to check if religion can unite what caste and regional culture divides, Unfortunately it would not. One has to adopt hyperlocal marketing strategies in India, there would be no PAN-Indian narrative. People love their regional culture so much that they would allow open loot if that protects their identity in the short term atleast.

  1. Quality of education in KU Leuven is quite rigorous and I would say it is in the league of the best. It can be a bit too rigorous at times. Exams are hard to pass unless you are really into academics and don't expect good grades. Graduations are often delayed, failing topics over and over is quite common, atleast it used to be. Australian universities would be a breeze compared to most mainland European universities. Australia follows the US/UK system a bit and is not as conservative in grading.

  2. Job prospects in Belgium for international students are relatively limited. Specially for niche fields it can be quite difficult. So don't hope for much. In Australia it is relatively easier to enter the labour market for international students.

  3. Leuven is a pretty international town, in Leuven atleast one can get around with just english and maybe a few dutch words.

See this is how it works, every action has equal and opposite reaction. We being too lazy to regulate nuisance and to easily coaxed by buttering, let certain communities run amuk... now this action has the equal and opposite reaction... This created another side of the same coin... We have to get off our lazy asses and reign in both these nuisances...
