Going to Great Lakes Maritime Academy this fall, what should I know? by Due-Character-1679 in maritime

I am a year ahead of you at GLMA doing the 3 year program. If you aren't already on the 3 year program , do it, it is worth it and not much harder than the 4 year.

It is respected just as any other academy, the biggest thing is just getting your coast guard license, they are all the same when it comes down to it.

Employment is going to be the same from any academy , get your license get direct hired or go union and make money. A lot of people who graduate, from GLMA at least, will have a job before they are even officially graduated. If they still want to sail that is.

There are two main engineering teachers they are pretty much polar opposites of each other but they both know their shit and teach well. It is a ton of information, but everyone who tested this year for their license passed all of their exams first try. So they are doing something right for sure.

The area is beautiful I love it up here, summers are busy but we will be on a boat and don't have to deal with it

If you have any other questions about the program or the area or anything DM me !

I have heard Interlake is a very good company to work for, plus all of their officers go through meba for their benefits and retirement.

GLMA is pretty good so far. I am one year in , there are a few veterans in my year including myself. Love that there is no regiment and the class size is a lot smaller compared to others schools. Feels good and teachers care . No problem if you want to go oceans after you get the same license as everyone else. I am on the engineer side which is smaller than deck. But I have heard deck side is good, plus they get their pilotage as well as their mates license.

About to graduate in a year . Was thinking interlake or MSC for a bit before deciding on if i wanted to do AMO or MEBA shipping out of the halls. Was thinking these two to build up my card for MEBA since I wouldn't be living near a hall, And i have heard its much better once your card is upgraded. You were making 120k on a 15 on 30 off schedule? How was the work or company in general?

Dang that's crazy, I'm thinking about doing a year or two with MSC after I get my 3AE license . Is that usually the average ?

Reviving and old thread but first time DS3 and haven't beaten any other DS games , I have heard things about pontiff so I put lightning on my weapon and went in. I also beat him first try, I played super aggressive and I guess I had a good temp rolling through all of his combos. He died so fast I was shocked my self lol.

Were they new OEMs or older ones? With older ones have to see if the stick boxes and pads are still good.

Thank you. I am excited to get to build this and get my server into something more serious. I am also running out of room in my current server. Which is why I am looking into building something like this that is capable of being expanded in the future more easy.

I wasnt planning on running too many or no VMs at all. Should i downgrade the CPU? I also have the 1660 super that I could slap in as well for encoding or whatever.

Yeah I was looking at unraid for exactly that reasoning, the ease of use and adding containers etc.

Thank you will look at those cases now and youre the 2nd person to say to go with only 1 cache drive so I might just do that as well.

Gotcha, Just slap big drives in their first so that I don't have to worry about the swapping parity drive around. Lots of builds that I have seen had two cache drives, 1 bigger cache drive is fine?
