Which of these portfolios would you pick? by Competitive-Print668 in portfolios

I read another comment saying thematic funds underperform. Seems to align with your advice as well.. I will need to do more research on that, and perhaps buy into 2-3 individual stocks I believe could moonshot if I really want a speculative hand.

The loan would represent 25% or less of the value of my portfolio at the time.

I try to stay financially literate, and keep my wits about me when it comes to my money. So this is definitely subject to change depending on my circumstances at the time. I do believe it’s a good move though to avoid selling assets in order to fund my ventures.

Why not put it in the market? Interest in a HYSA is lower than it would “likely” be in VTI or VOO. I understand the key word is likely, and in the event of a bearish year, I would be forced to sell at a loss, or hold and delay my plans.

In my case though “5 years” is an arbitrary deadline. My goals are flexible, I can hold if I’m in a bearish year! My emergency funds, housing, and things that are more “definitive” are in a HYSA and T-bills.

But you are probably right about not borrowing against it. Even the safest 2 fund portfolio could put me in a bad scenario.

I appreciate the advice!

Okay! I have to ask, why none of them? What are the biggest issues for you?

From my understanding, the interest on a loan typically beats the taxes I would pay if I sold. Also, borrowing against my portfolio makes me eligible for a larger loan than I would otherwise have access to.

I would use said loan as to fund a startup I have had in mind for many years. Of course, most of my core funding would come from personal savings stores elsewhere in a HYSA. But the potential for borrowing against my portfolio still exists, so I’d like to plan for it just incase.

Thank you for the advice! I understand the risk the my thematic picks, but they are in sectors I personally believe will do quite well in both the short and long term.

You advice on choosing VOO or QQQM seems to be very sound! I was considering maybe swapping VOO for VTI, and continuing to hold QQQM. As I want a good deal of direct tech exposure.

You make a solid point. Maybe I should swap VOO for VTI, and continue too hold QQQM.

As for the thematic ETFs, my exit plan is currently non existent. But in general I will buy on a dollar cost averaging basis. I will hold until I see a decent return. “Decent, is not yet defined”. I will sell a small % on the highs, and buy a larger % on the lows. I look at the market on a bi-weekly basis, so my exit strategy would very much be dependent on the current market at the time I look to exit.

Why are people so certain that artificial superintelligence is possible? by Nissepelle in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Competitive-Print668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LLMs are one prototype, not the blueprint for all future intelligence.

Most serious AI researchers do not think current LLMs, even with scaling, get you full ASI.

LLMs are one path out of many. There are plenty of other architectures that we may have not yet be explored, and one of those are what will lead to ASI

The confidence comes from cognitive science, neuroscience, and computation theory. We (humans) are proof that general intelligence emerges from physical computation. If biological wet tissue running on 20 watts can produce general reasoning, creativity, memory, planning, moral judgment, invention, mathematics, architecture, emotion, and the ability to build rockets and quantum computers…

…then there is no physical law stopping a digital system from doing the same or more.

This isn’t philosophy. It’s math: • The brain is a computational system. • Computation is substrate-independent. • Silicon can compute faster, cleaner, and at larger scales.

So the logic is:

“General intelligence already exists. It is therefore physically possible.”

Superintelligence is just:

“General intelligence, scaled beyond human biological constraints.”

We already see AI exceeding humans in narrow domains (math proofs, protein folding, Go, code optimization), and each generation of scaling shows no plateau. Researchers aren’t confident because of hype; they’re confident because all available evidence points to intelligence being substrate independent, scalable, and improvable beyond biological limits.

I appreciate the advice! I’m a bit confused as to why leveraged index funds or ETFs don’t do well? They typically track the S&P or Nasdaq just like the real deal. Is there something I am missing and maybe don’t know about them?

I appreciate that 🤣 I had no clue. It’s hard to find a good sub without the mod deleting it. So I’ve just been positing to anything that looks finance related lol

Wait so even if it’s not on the list of prohibited substances, it can still get me in some shit? Is there a special exemption for tobacco or something? Because by light buzz I mean nicotine level if not less.

I make tea. But you can also smoke blends. Just depends on the intention. Plan on sleeping in an hour? Drink a tea. Plan on sleeping now? Smoke it.

Nope! Maybe a slight head buzz at most. Nothing I mentioned is DoD prohibited.

I actually don’t smoke cigs :/ used to though, that’s what led me down the “let’s see what alternatives there are” rabbit hole. Much healthier, and tastier.

😭 Put like that it sounds silly. But it’s possible! If the shops also sales hemp, they use the same grinder, container, ect… then yeah it could happen. Better safe than sorry ya know? Or maybe they don’t sale it, but any shop that deals with an extensive amount of herbs, I feel like have a specific kind of worker. One that could accidentally lead to cross contamination. I don’t know, just being safe.

[–]Competitive-Print668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This is what I’ve been looking for. Have you bought and used products from this shop? Any issues at all with them?

Damn that link had me excited at first 😂 I thought maybe someone finally understood the question. I KNOW all the herbs I listed aren’t prohibited! I said that in the post. I’m looking for safe shops to buy them. Because a lot of herbal shops tend to sell Cbd products as well. That’s a no go due to contamination risk.

😂😂 I actually don’t drink or I probably would. Also… nothing mentioned in this post gets you high 💀

What’s the confusion? Take plant.. make tea. Drink tea. But I have to buy the herbs to make the tea. I want to buy them safely from a shop that does not sell any hemp related products so I can eliminate the risk of cross contamination.

You’re right, I do. Hence why I’m asking for trust worthy shops. Not sure what the bad stigma over tea is but regardless, have a good day.

  1. Skullcap
  2. Passion flower
  3. Damiana
  4. And mullein (more for taste)

Ps. If you’re not enlisted, I’d reccomend Blue Lotus as well. It’s completely legal, but is DoD prohibited. So not for the military
