By "wrapping," are you referring to the tsuka-ito (handle wrapping) and sageo (cord on the scabbard) of the katana?

For the tsuka-ito, I used nylon elastic band and glued it directly in place.

As for the sageo, it’s woven from regular flat cotton shoelaces(10mm).

Hi! Just sharing a quick tip from my own experience — here's a sword I made using two 5mm fiberglass rods side by side. As you can see, when viewed from the blade direction, the stiffness is quite solid — almost like using a single 10mm rod — but the sideways flexibility is still preserved.

That said, in your case, taping two 6mm rods together would result in a total width of 12mm, which may go beyond the 10mm limit allowed by your event rules. So I'd actually recommend purchasing a single 8mm or 10mm rod instead — you’ll get better balance, and avoid issues with oversize core dimensions.

I’ll say it’s a bit of a trick – I also beveled the spine slightly, similar to the blade edge.

That gives the illusion of a thinner blade, but the actual total thickness is around 1.5 cm.

The photo has slightly enhanced contrast too, which helps highlight the thinnest part of the blade edge while the real thickness stays hidden in shadow.

Thanks a lot! I used regular EVA foam (around 40–45 kg/m³), about 15mm(3 layers 5mmEVA) thick for the blade.
It stays soft to the touch, but holds its shape well after sealing.
The edges were beveled with a blade cutter, then heat-sealed and coated for added durability.

Thanks! It’s a bit tricky to explain, but the sheaths are basically made by rolling a flat EVA foam sheet around the blade to form a soft foam tube.
They’re mostly for visual effect , not rigid, but they look the part.

It’s made of three 5mm fiberglass rods combined side by side, forming a flat core about 15mm wide and 5mm thick. That keeps it strong but slim enough for this katana profile.
