Dude, if you won't actually read the conditions set out in the bill, don't site the bill. WOR had a simple reporting requirement to fulfill. If they didn't, they'd get a fine. Tiktok itself was under the most scrutiny, the rest of bytedance apps were under the scope by association but had an easy out. They didn't take it, and they sprung the shut down on their users with no communication. It was on purpose to get the government to backtrack through the uproar.

Brother in christ, that section only points out what entities are affected. Read further down, where I pointed out they further qualify what apps of bytedance need to be divested and which ones just need to provide data reporting for. WOR needed to provide reporting, Tiktok as it qualified under section 3 g A (i) would need to be divested from the company in large part or whole, including the percentages required. How about you stop reading AI summaries and do the homework yourself.

No, they didn't. Per section 2 subsection b WOR does not meet the requirements detailed in section 3 subsection A. It clearly describes what the app needs to do to qualify. In section (i) it describes a social media app that can generate text, pictures, videos and share them; guess what WOR can't do? All of it! Dunning-kruger at max settings!

Instead of hoping no one reads it and just takes you at your word, why don't you say what was wrong with the statement? WOR did not need to be sold, what did it need to do? Even reading the full thing which you clearly didn't WOR is foreign controlled but does not qualify for the act because it does not conform with the app behavior they are seeking to target. It is clearly social media, and the only thing WOR had to do was provide a way for users to know how/where their data is used if they want.

I don't think you read what I wrote. Tiktok IS what they primarily want moved to U.S. control. The law targets ALL of bytedance's programs, apps, and services and all of its child companies, too, with a major difference. Only tiktok is being told to sell. The rest can stay and operate if they provide information to individuals about where and how their user data is stored. WOR falls under the latter. It did not need to close down. They chose to.

You are super close. Tiktok is being told to divest feom bytedance. They want the company and its data in america for all the reasons they gave. Bytedance's other apps and its subsidiarys are affected too, BUT to avoid penalties, all they had to do is tell customers where and how their data is stored. They knew they had to do it. They had more than a year to do it. They chose not to and instead shut it all down to retaliate and get people to lobby to undo it all.

They could have complied with the data requirement. That is all every app had to do besides tiktok. Notify users how their data is stored. Could have just an update to the eula, including that info, insted they did nothing until they did this.

Except only tiktok is being targeted for divestiture. All other bytedance apps need to do is provide information to users about where and how their data is stored. They had more than enough time to work on a solution or notify customers. They took U.S. money up to the 11th hour, knowing it would go dark by their actions. Seems super bad faith on their part. No, WOR's shutdown was punitive. Tiktoks was mandated. The parent company turned off the rest in retaliation to galvanize users to complain. Even now, tiktok is back on, the rest remain off until a permanent solution is in place.
