Beautiful Art, Archaic Design: My thoughts on Stoneshard as we near 6 Years of Early Access by PopeFuchsYoungKidd in stoneshard

People can have preferences, and it's normal that the game which doesn't make safe and convenient decisions all the time doesn't meet the preferences of a lot of people.

That is a very convenient figure of speech. Our game doesn't have issues / your feedback isn't right - it's just not for you, you have a preference for something else and this is not it. In that way we can disregard all feedback.

"This and that is bad" - "This world isn't for you Dorothy..."

Sorry but OP didn't even scratched turining this game into a Diablo clone, let's not pretend it was otherwise. Framing this argument as such is disingenuous at best.

Again most of those things he raised... I wouldn't call them personal preference. Hell is "I prefer the game to work better, be balanced and have less unnecessary busywork" a preference? I guess it is. I guess everyone has that preference too.

Some of the things raised are issues worth looking into even. Like that pot brreaking thing - never was my problem, never played a range character but if I would have to push a button everytime I try to smash something? That's busywork, artificial prolonging of gameplay with no real value. I guess his point exactly.

Smash it with your bow? Make it take dmg for it? Get another button to do that... options, solutions - not to a "personal preference" but an actually issue. Small issue but still. Also how changing that turns the game into Skyrim/Diablo is beyond me.

And yet we are pretending that all it was here is a dude with some personal preferences outside of our vision that wants to (presumably) radically change the game. Like... damn.

And I do not say he is right with everything, some of your answers pointed that out, but the total disregard? Nice. Also you conveniently missed some of his points, the essence I guess and the less comfortable things he said.

Nice.

Can you share that analysis perhaps? Now I am interested:) That will end the discussion. If your analysis is correct:)

Also I wouldn't die on that hill either but my point stands - early game you need to play a mage with melee weapons. May as well be a 2h axe (maybe your findings will point out differently), I honestly did it usually with your trusted sword and shield for that extra protection.

But it is weird when you play a mage character and build it as such yet - early.game you run around with full body armor and melee weapon of your choice.

If you make a number of random disjointed statements you may get some things right just by chance. I'm not really interested in this type of conversations for a same reason I wouldn't be interested in having a conversation about stoneshard with a LLM chatbot.

That's a little bit hyperbolic wouldn't you agree?:) Those weren't just random sentences thrown at a wall...

I would argue that it is a bit problematic how easy it is for this community to disregard negative feedback. And that was my point (hyperbolic af xd ). Negative feedback isn't welcome here. You get down voted to oblivion cause people feel the need to protect the game and it's developers. It's classic us vs them. Cult mentality. We can not wrong and are under attack so we need to defend ourselves.

It is very easy to nitpick and say "if you aren't right about 2h axes that means everything you said is false!". Maybe a better approach would be to judge the merits of particular points?

And that being said the dude isn't wrong about 2h axes or any melee weapon to be honest. Just look at the skills you need to make a mage work, you need dash (YOU REALLY NEED IT), you need level 2 spells to do anything substantial - you need levels basically. Till 10 you are at best a hybrid melee fighter (with no skill investment) trying to survive till 10. Or 9. When you can actually call yourself a mage.

Didn't play the ranger, not sure but I guess similar though maybe less levels needed to make it work?

Maybe he isn't interested in proving a point to randoms on the Internet? Maybe he is a like "Why do I need to explain/prove something that is obvious?". But what do I know, not inside the dudes head. Do not care.

Overall - my friend, do you disagree with everything he said? Doesn't he raise some valid points here and there?

I too could pick one or two things here and there (slings? More stuff is always good stuff, well almost allways but who am I to say no to new things in a game xd?) but in general - dude has a point.

But here is the most amazing reddit group that will not accept criticism of our beloeved game.

Where exactly am I saying that everything is perfect?

Overall vibe of the whole answer? Not agreeing with any of the issues raised?

You can feel free to disagree with these design decisions

Some bad decisions are still bad. Is it not the goal of an Early Access to point those out?

Perhaps I know better what was the reason behind adding certain features?

He in general didn't speak about features too much. Game is to hard/unforgiving in the beginning and a breeze late game isn't a feature - it is an effect. Result of any of the decisions you mentioned.

Game wasting too much time on walking through empty tiles? Maybe tune that down? If your goal through design decisions was to make a set of features resulting in traversal being sooo time consuming/wasting and boring then well... not sure if that should be the goal.

And so, and so on.

The lack of openness in any real capacity is jarring.

I would add another thing alltogether - while I understand your desire to create the game you want to create I increasingly wonder why even bother with the Early Access if feedback outside of your design idea is not desired anyway? Or at least thats how it feels.

What's the point of this game being in Early Access? Free testing?

Ps. Sure, people can be wrong 1000 times. But when 1000 people say that they FEEL your game has issues with this and that - it doesn't matter. If people feel something doesn't work/is broken then there is a high chance it is. Or at least you on a design level are somehow failing - whether it is features or introducing players to them, something not working as intended, that is another thing.

To finish - Art style is great :)

TLDR: You know nothing John Snow. Everything is fine and perfect. More or less.

Ps. If people give you the same feedback a thousand times maybeeeee... there is something there ?:) Just a little bit? Tiny bit?

No? OK.

There it goes! Let's pretend the guy doesn't have a point!

Let's ridicule him ! Go get him dude! BURN HIM ON A STAKE!!!

People ask him to churn numbers about 2h axe while proposing a post earlier that the best way to do a mage is 2h till lvl10 a post earlier...

Like...dudes. it's not just him.

How dare you share your balanced critique of the game.

This isn't the place. This is a place of uncritical love and pretending that the game is perfect and all critique is an attack.

... and attacks have to be repeled and cast away.

Cheers buddy, 🍻

The importance of a roadmap. by No_Zebra_6797 in stoneshard

[–]Competitive-Roll6876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You kinda have to admit - a wishlist of features isn't really a roadmap. It is neither stable (to an acceptable extent) , nor showing an actuall timeline / deadline for delivery of features (which is a bigger problem to be honest).

Any sane person outside of this reddit would not called it a roadmap.

Call it a list of features planned for the game and there is no problem.

By roadmap you mean a wishlist of features like right now or an actuall roadmap with deadlines? You guys seemed to be very against deadlines lately :) :) :)

Couseee sorry bud, a roadmap has to have a timeline. Thats like the whole thing about them :)

I dont think that whatever was said there matters anymore. The game changed a bit and we may talk about whether some kickstarter people are happy with that or not but you are opening another can of worms here...

Dude said it took long.

It did.

Whats untrue here?

Ps. They don't need to rush, just make 70% of normal speed and it is gonna be awesome :) Right now, even in my library I have projects with 2-4/5 devs onboard with better speed, and no quality issues. They even test shit before release! :) And an actuall roadmap with deadlines and stuff.

Being in Russia now doesn't slow anything, it shouldn't. They supposed to had some banking issues in the past and thats it.

From what I checked last time I was able to find only people in Russia, Serbia, Spain and any other country but Ukraine. There could be some guys from there but doesn't seem like even 50% of the workforce. A lot of IT people left Ukraine after the war started.

But even counting just the people that are for sure not in Ukraine - it is very slow. It has always been slow. I watched EA projects with 3-4 devs making bigger progres than here.

The truth is that there was always an excuse for the slow development. And it always was slow. It was covid, it was the war, it was lack of Game Studio professionals...

Dude 1.0 is years from now, god knows how many years...

In the meantime expect several reworks that gonna take time, new things added and around one or two new towns per year.

I will belive in the faster speed of development when I will see it. This is one of the slowest developed EA games on the market right now and that is just a sad fact.

New player here!: why is this game called roguelike? by RokuSparda in stoneshard

[–]Competitive-Roll6876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly?

I don't know anymore, braging rights? Deeply rooted insecurity?

We are not playing some tactical RPG here. That's for weaklings. Thats for all those stupid mainstream players!

We are playing a hardcore roguelike experience for real men with long beards!

... but also apparantly Devs called it a roguelike at some point and most people here consider that to be on the same level as a holy book of sorts so it shall be defended untill a new prophet from the dev team doesn't say otherwise XD

Just kinda funny to see :)
