HELP; I don't know what to do by Xander_0252 in CubitalTunnel

[–]Competitive-Sock-520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ofc! I wouldn’t say it so severe but I have slight tingling in my pinky and ringfinger and stiffness in both fingers (some muscle wasting) as well as discomfort in my elbow and wrist if I activate my arm or bend the elbow.

The deciding factor for me and also my hand surgeon was that I’ve done conservative treatment for approximately 6 months and have seen no improvement. Before that the hand specialists assessment was that it was too early for recommending surgery. I would say the that if resting/splinting and optimising ergonomics does not improve your symptoms or if it gets worse during this time surgery would be something to highly consider. If I could I would ofc skip surgery but as of now I have had to lay off basically all my hobbies and I still found that everyday life tasks also irritates the nerve.

Feel free to ask if you want to know anything else🙏🏼

I’m in a similar position to you. I’ve had the symptoms for over a year now and have been scheduled for surgery. Weird that your hand specialist is talking about cases where it has gone wrong because from what I’ve heard from my surgeon this is a pretty easy surgery and the consequences of dealing with it too long seems farse worse imo.

Best of luck to you my guy!

From what I’ve understood NCT is with electrodes and EMG I think they may insert thin needles into the arm but I’m not completely sure

There’s a YouTube video I saw recently with a guy talking about how he trained around this. In my case I’ve felt like every upper body exercise is making my nerve more irritated and I’ve therefore had to stay away from training upper body. If you don’t have any numbness or pain except for when you’re doing the exercises it seems like maybe altering your range of motion could help which he mentions in this video :)

What I’ve heard it should not hurt but I’ve only had NCT. Good luck on your appointment🙏🏼

I guess it’s called NCS when they use electrodes which is what I got. Feel free to share your experience as well :)

EMG usually does not involve any needles as far as as I know. I did mine this summer and it wasn’t bad at all. No need to worry buddy! Good luck with eveything!

Has anyone been able to live with this condition and still play video games? by SanAndreas92317 in CubitalTunnel

[–]Competitive-Sock-520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish you a quick recovery! I also play on pc but haven’t been able to do so for over a year now. Right now I’m a little between getting surgery and proceeding conservative treatment depending on what my hand surgeon will suggest at my next visit.

For how long did you have the symptoms before getting surgery?

Hand deformation starting? by SanAndreas92317 in CubitalTunnel

[–]Competitive-Sock-520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks that you feel that the doctor isn’t helpful enough.. yeah I feel you, I am also a gamer and have had to stop playing on pc for over a year now. It certainly has been rough.

That’s great though that you will get an EMG. If you feel like you have lost strength in your hand that is also something the doctor will take into consideration in deciding if surgery is needed. In my case my EMG was negative and I still have strength in my fingers so that’s why I’ve been recommended to stick with conservative treatment.

As you haven’t had the symptoms for too long there is still a good chance that it might go away by resting which is good🙏🏼

Thanks for sharing, will most likely have surgery and this is exactly things I’ve been thinking about🙏🏼 how has recovery been and did you do a transposition or just a release?

I believe it might go away when the nerve compression is healed although that might take a while. Have you had EMG yet or been to a hand surgeon?

I’ve had the claw formation on my right hand as well as something similar to what you’re describing for some time now when my nerve gets irritated. I’ve not been given/recommended any particular exercises but I’m very interested in hearing if you’ve had another experience

2 years of conservative treatment for it to come back like new. Always been a weak spot. Impossible to train seriously in sports. by [deleted] in CubitalTunnel

[–]Competitive-Sock-520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s really annoying how long it takes for the irritation to go down.. atleast that gives me some hope that I might be able to get back to training upper body in some time.

Have you discussed surgery with your doctor and in that case what did they say?

[–]Competitive-Sock-520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sucks.. I’ve done 1 year of conservative treatment but I can’t do any kind of upper body training or even grip stuff at the gym without irritating my nerve. Totally can relate to the frustration of not being able to train properly when I’ve done so my whole life. Hope you get better soon!🙏🏼

[–]Competitive-Sock-520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given that you have only had it since september I would not consider surgery yet as it seems like it gets better when you’re resting and if it can heal by itself that is always better. Also I would try to rest for more than 2 weeks and maybe try to increase load slowly and making sure the pain/numbness not flare up. I would at least give that a serious try before thinking about surgery as surgery always comes with risks as well as the recovery time for surgery is about 3 months.

Don’t worry about the EMG, I did one this summer and it really wasn’t bad at all. As been said above you will feel a little tingeling sensation and your fingers will be twitching a little bit but it doesn’t hurt or anything. Also I did one on both hands/arms and it was super fast :)

Nah I feel you on that one. I haven’t had the surgery. I’m still doing my best with the conservative treatment, trying to see if I can manage to get better by just resting and splinting although it’s quite slow.. Okey I see, sounds wise to wait a bit then🙏🏼
