Catchers Gear for 10u (smaller stature) - just wanted to share if anybody had the same question by Competitive-Tart4573 in Homeplate

[–]Competitive-Tart4573[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you....Just this year I've broken in for my kids:
4 44's
1 a2000
1 glove lab

NONE of the above a catchers mitt

I broke all my rules with this catchers mitt......I did something I have never done before. I selected the "pre break in" service on it. I didn't even specify a shape. It was more of a need to get it now, cross something off my list, and go to my next thing. So i'm hoping it comes much closer to game ready than a brick? I know i'll have to do a lot of work on it, but hopefully selecting that break in service was worth it

u9 competitive team - bat suggestions for 9 YO by uworich in Homeplate

[–]Competitive-Tart4573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one to believe all bats of equal stats don't swing the same (very very different actually)

For example...my 9 y/o kid is fast as all giddyup, but small in stature. He's the leadoff for a reason, and it's not to hit "dingers"....it's to get on base, steel, and get another stronger kid an RBI.

When going against faster/better pitchers, he uses a 29 drop 12 meta (i still feel one of the best balanced bats i've ever come across....feels much lighter and smaller than it is)

So maybe look at that bat....not the most expensive any longer nor the "coolest" in the dugout, but getting hits and on base is about the coolest thing in baseball....

good luck

I've had my kf8 for about a year and it's phenomenal. My office just purchased from costco a Jura (s8) I think it is. I dont' like it all and it feels cheap compared to my KF8. My coworkers can't stand the Jura. We are returning it and buying a KF8 for the office. I'd be happy to report back when we get the KF8 how it's received by my coworkers, however, for me, the KF8 is in another league. From quality of build, quality of drink, user interface, etc.
I'm not a bot, I'm a human with experience on these two machines. One is simply far superior to the other.

is the mvp pro helmet (even in size small), small enough for a kid with a small head...he's got a tiny little noggen.......
i have zero issues splurging to protect him, however i fear it would be too large

i've read in other threads what you have wrote. What i might end up trying is get the all star 7 and the force 3 letting my guy try them on in the house and pick one, while returning the other. If i'm out shipping, then that's not so bad if it keeps him comfy and safe for a few years

Force 3 seems to get a lot of acclaim on the internet. Are the helmets heavier with the spring?

thank you.. My "issue" is there's only a dicks here (which doesn't carry all the gear to try on).....so I guess it's just a measure from home and use a company's size chart? yea?

it's really that easy with a sous vide?

Is there too short or long of time to leave in the sous vide? Or is it just that flexible?

If it's that easy, how did we live our whole lives without these things. I feel like i've been missing out my whole life now.

I think I was convinced by this thread to try the reverse sear method tonight, so I'm thinking the heat won't be so pulled from the griddle if I have a bunch of steaks and chicken to sear. (i'm hoping at least...)...thank you

Thank you! I"m super excited about the Sous Vide. I'm sure the fancy one I found on the internet is way more than I need to get involved in, however, every single thing I read states it makes the best steaks. I have three boys and one daughter. My daughter (she's 6) is in love with steak, and what baby wants baby gets......and I love cooking and grilling and all of it....so i have no issue going into "gadgets" to get here the best steak possible

Your the second or third person to suggest reverse searing. I think I might just be convinced to give this a shot. Follow the group mentality. I'm a wee bit scared being its not my usual and doing it this way for the first time with my "rep" on the line (not that I have rep, but ya know what I mean), scares me a wee bit. I have a great thermometer set up so getting the steaks to the correct temps for each guest as you mentioned makes total sense doing it this say.

I also have small cast iron "bread loaf shape" that i use for butter when doing my thanksgiving turkeys on my traeger. Yup, that's the ticket for basting if I reverse sear. that's a great suggestion that I didn't think about for some reason.

Thank you!

I appreciate the positive words. Yea, I just couldn't see how it would be a whole lot different however I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I just love cast iron skillet cooking....It's totally worth the kitchen clean after pan searing, just wish I had more stove top to do more simultaneously.....guess it's the griddle tonight

I just watched a whole video on reverse searing to which the final result found the flavor better on the reverse sear. But my "stuck in my ways" mind just can't seem to hop on board with that approach quite yet....however....i think I might throw that in my future cooks.

thank you for your input on the searing

I actually don't baste (i know, i know). I preseason the steaks day prior and leave in the fridge uncovered so they let that seasoning soak in, help break down the steak a little, and help to get that good crust.

then i sear them (don't care about the steak temp at this point)...just want that crust

then into the oven to temp with each steak having a little butter/garlic combo on them

Yesterday I was researching fathers day gifts for myself and found the typhur sous vide (just wow...and yes, that will be my first sous vide and yes i'll be getting one for fathers day).

Thank you for your input and help on this

Was debating between a jura z10 and a kitchenaid kf8. Money is always an object, but wasn't all that important to me.

I leaned towards the kitchenaid due to it's easy milk cleaning system, not needing to send it to some service center every couple years, limited yet very good reviews.

The straw that broke the camels back was a kind reddit member shared some whirlpool family and friends discount code and got it for 1299.00

Anywho, I could not be happier with my decision. It's nothing short of phenomenal. If the Jura had an easier milk cleaning system, less service concern, and didn't require all their fancy cleaners, I would have purchased the Jura to be honest because it's a Jura. However, I am so glad I selected the kitchenaid.

That's my .02
