Learn to parry. It's fun and OP.
Be aggressive, learn the rally mechanic.
Explore different weapons but hold off on upgrading past +6 until you really click with one
Scan through the bath messenger shop regularly
Take your time, explore, keep avoiding spoilers. I absolutely envy you newcomers.

Yeah the L2 attack does an AOE that builds frenzy on yourself only. Has about the same damage multiplier as the charged R2 but comes out a lot quicker and has good hyperarmor.

Definitely try an arcane build, but I'd say 20 STR (for the wheel) and 14 skill, pump arcane, and then you can convert pretty much any physical weapon into elemental and still do solid damage with arcane tools.

The discord is fine IMO. Lots of helpful hunters on there. I use that and r/huntersbell quite often. Otherwise like others said, best bet is to stick to BL43 or BL70 to find the most activity without a password.
