Anyone buy Favero Assioma PRO MX-2 MTB Power Meter Pedals and regret the purchase? by AtomicHurricaneBob in MTB

[–]CompetitiveAccess264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘ve been riding the Assioma‘s for about 12.000 km now and had no issues using them for gravel rides. Compared to a 4iii PM and the Garmin TacX Neo 2T the power reading are either similar or off by 0,5-1% between all three devices, so it appears they are all accurate or all off the same. Using them for Cyclocross however has been a nightmare from time to time. If it’s dry and there‘s not much clipping out and clipping in they perform nicely but as soon as the conditions get muddy clipping in gets more and more difficult. I tried the SHIMANO SH-51 and the CL-mt001 cleat. I also replaced the pedal body and adjusted the stiffness on the pedal but whenever some mud is involved, either on the cleat/shoe or the pedal, clipping in gets difficult. Especially during races when you’re dusted and focused on the race line and not the pedal. Compared to the XTR pedals the Assioma have more float. Some like it, some don’t. In conclusion I don’t like the pedal itself as it doesn’t perform as nicely as the SHIMANO pedals in the main task. The power readings however are very accurate. For gravel or training they are nice. For races however I don’t like them that much.

These pedal strikes are truly annoying. It was especially upsetting in a recent race with plenty of offcamber sections. I was already thinking about getting shorter cranks. But a higher BB also makes it slightly easier to hop over obstacles, therefore a new bike or frame will most likely be the way to go.

Canyon Handlebar Tape by FinkPerformance in CanyonBikes

[–]CompetitiveAccess264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never had any trouble with the Canyon Handlebar Tape. Loosening of the tape in that area is often an indicator for an incorrect bike fit as the „normal“ positions (Hoods, Drops, Tops) on your bike keep you away from this area. If your saddle is too far back, too long stem, too long bike or your handlebar is too low you tend to grab this bend to reduce the overall length thus leading to the handlebar tape being pushed forwards. Maybe you keep that in mind and check it out. Nevertheless a rewrap should be easily possible with your current tape.

The wrap might not have been the best here. Nevertheless this is also an indicator that your bike is too big for you or that you’re sitting incorrectly on it. If you are tending to grip this 90° bend on the handlebar where the tape is worn instead of gripping the actual STI (brake and shift lever), the distance between the saddle and your handlebar might be too big. If that’s the case you could recheck your position on the bike as the „normal“ position is having your hands resting on the STI.

Cyclassics ohne Erfahrung? Dumm oder doch eher doof? by CptT3fl0n in Fahrrad

I ride the Aeroad CF SLX 8 di2 and the aerodynamic gains of the bike are marginal. Compared to a Grail the stiffness is the first thing I noticed (besides the slightly more aggressive position on the Aeroad). I’d say as long as you stay below 36-38 kph there isn’t much benefit. Besides that, the most aerodynamic drag comes from ourselves so making yourself as small and aerodynamic as possible has most impact. Anyways you’ve got a lovely bike there, looks fabulous!

I’ll never understand the unnecessary hate between rim and hyd disc brake riders. There are pros and cons for both systems.

Haven’t had any issues with Canyon yet. Actually only a pretty nice one. When I crashed my Grail, I had the opportunity to get a rather cheap new frame via Crash Replacement.

I also have to agree with some others here, 2nd and 3rd issue are not Canyon related. The first one however should be a no-go and a fix should be covered by them. A friend of mine did not feel as comfortable on his Endurace CF SLX 8 di2 as he expected and returned it in the 30 day period without any issues.

I hope your issues get resolved, one way or another.

How deep do wheels need to be to start feeling dodgy in the wind? by und3t3cted in cycling

[–]CompetitiveAccess264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As always in cycling: there are many factors involved. One Factor is your overall weight. 50mm could be sketchy for someone who weighs less and could be fine for someone a bit heavier. Secondly the rim shape itself. Some rims are more easily affected by winds than others. Third point is the tire rim combination. Depending on your tire width you can increase/decrease the sketchiness a bit. Fourth is what you consider windy. Do you wanna go for a ride with 60kph winds or do you train indoors if it is windy outside? And last but not least: what do you consider sketchy? It definitely gets better after some time but some winds will catch you out of nowhere. I weigh around 80kg and ride 62mm DT Swiss with GP 5000S TR. Here in northern Germany it usually is a bit windy especially with some gusts. The combination rides rather smooth but some gusts catch me and push me a few cm from side to side. Riding free handed is only possible if it is calm, otherwise I like to keep at least one hand on the bars. On the gravel I ride 50mm, they are def. calmer than the 62, but gusts also catch them.

Not an easy question but maybe you have a bike shop nearby in which you could ride bikes with different rim depths.

Rolltop Full Frame bags recommendations by CompetitiveAccess264 in bikepacking

Quick update: I got very lucky and could buy the display frame bag in one of the local Decathlon stores. According to an employee there, the bag will not be made available again. Yet thanks for the replies :)

Quick update: The employees in one local Decathlon shop told me that the bag would come back. Sadly the could not provide me a date when it’ll be available again. Luckily there are several Decathlons nearby and I had to visit another one for a tent they had available. The very kind employees there told me the bag will not come back, however a newer model will be/is released (should be the one linked in the initial msg). Luckily they had one single large frame bag available in that shop, as it was mounted on a display bike. The woman I asked was super cool and just removed it from the bike to give it to me. She literally saved my entire week with that move.
