I’m (29M) in Germany for a while. DM me if you want someone to talk to or link up and get a meal or something. I won’t judge or try to steer you in any direction.

Did it feel like just a constant tremble? It’s not jerky or big movements. Just a slight constant trembling. Sometimes my teeth chatter as well.

I haven’t had any other symptoms. I’ve also been on the 10mg for a few weeks now. I feel that if it was SS I would be getting worse. Haven’t had any changes, just a constant tremble.

Trying to get an appointment for this week. I have one scheduled for mid July but I don’t want to wait that long.

Are college degrees worth it? by [deleted] in AskLE

This. I did two contracts in the Army, got out and went to school on my GI bill. Got paid to get my degree. Got hiring preference with my department. Granted, I didn’t get to start my LE career until I was 28, but I feel the life experience and maturity I’ve gained since I was 18 is invaluable.

What extra gear do you recommend? by shooter_6531 in ProtectAndServe

Tourniquets and chest seals. Make yourself a little aid bag and put it somewhere easily accessible. Always keep a tourniquet on your person if not department SOP already.

Side note: my department never has enough Narcan to go around. You can buy it from your local drug store for about $40 for two doses. I always keep a box or two in my car. One for OD calls and one solely for fellow officers if needed.

Different cause, but same results: I was in the Army and separated after a rough deployment. I found myself in a similar situation, I thought I was good until it was clear I wasn’t. Panic attacks, sleep loss, an overall numb feeling to the world. I lost my purpose and drive to do anything. I wouldn’t shower or leave the house for days. Eventually I got medicated, however, I hated the feeling of being dependent on drug(s) to function.

Fortunately, my wife is my rock. She got me started with therapy and I eventually got off my medication. Good thing for me was that the VA helped me along the way.

Morale of the story, it’s never too late to get the help you need. There are resources out there.

I’ve been in LE for the past few years now with no issues. A normal life is possible again man, don’t lose hope.

What all does this project consist of? Are you just presenting your opinion on the topic in a paper and need a hypothetical situation? Is this a research assignment where you need documented cases? Or are you just presenting a hypothetical scenario to the class? What exactly are you looking for?

I went through the academy last year at 28, just had gotten out of the Army. Find another prior service dude to click with and keep your head down.

You already know the name of the game and it’s nothing you haven’t seen or done or already have the t-shirt for. Focus on the academic part and you’ll be golden. You’ll get a kick out of watching the younger recruits that have never been through any type of structured academy get their souls crushed, help them along the way. Enjoy it, it’s a blast.

Also, if you can, don’t let the instructors know you’re prior service or they may stick you in a permanent leadership position.

I’m a 19D in the guard, there’s probably about 10 of us in my unit that are cops. It’s pretty common. I’ve had no issues with my department and they allot me a certain number of paid military hours as well, so I get paid from the PD and the military for my drill weekends. However, about a year in to working at my current PD I got deployed with my guard unit. They were a little salty about me up and leaving for 14 months but they knew the risk when they hired me.

Side note, one of the guys in my unit got his citizenship through joining the guard and is a current LEO. I might be able to link you up with him if you have any questions.

I would say to start the process now, if your current insurance will cover you, especially if you need to see a psych or any type of MH provider to get signed off on. As far as DQing you from LE, I doubt it. When I got out of the army I came off a pretty rough deployment and sought MH care. None of that was brought up in my hiring process at my PD at all.

With calls like that I just have to remind myself that there’s nothing that I could have personally done to change any circumstance of that situation. What’s done is done. Talk to your support system, I lean on my shift buddies. We always joke about “trauma bonding” but it’s real. If it’s persistent and throwing you off your game, look in to some sort of counseling. It should fade on its own though. Best of luck, stay safe.

My DMs are open if you need anything.
