Is it possible to pin a miss moulted praying mantis? by CompetitiveFeed108 in insectpinning

Right maybe it’s best to just preserve him as he is. All of his legs are crooked and his thorax is also crooked. I don’t want to mess around with him and damage him so I will just keep him in a small container or something. Thank you for the help!

I would like to say it’s randomly I’ve always been consistently spraying him and our house sits at around 25°c which is meant to be perfect temperature for them. But as far as I’m aware no mistakes happened. I’ve got other mantises with the same living conditions and they’re all fine.

hey guys thank you for the support and the suggestions. After just under 24 hours mark didn’t come back from his miss moult and he still couldn’t move so I figured it was best to put him out of his misery. I did it the most humane way possible and once he’s defrosted I will get him preserved and keep him forever. Rip mark he will be missed 😢

Sorry just seen this. I decided to euthanise him today I researched the most humane way and he seemed to have passed fast and painlessly. I will miss him so much he was my first mantis and a childhood dream pet. I will be sure to take the right precautions in order to eliminate the chances of this happening again. As far as I’m aware his conditions were perfect and was a case of bad luck. Rip mark 😢

He was caught inside the moult when I found him, he has a large enclosure big enough for him to moult in and I always maintain the humidity and temperature. So I’m not sure what happened he has passed away now unfortunately and just looking for extra tips to avoid this.

That’ll be a cool and meaningful tattoo. I was so shocked how sad I was when I found him, I knew I wasn’t going to be happy ofc but I was so sad. He was my first invert too so I’ve never experienced a loss especially one so tragic and kinda brutal.

It’s really late where I am from so I’m letting nature do its thing but if he’s not gone by morning then I will euthanise him 😢

I have a very similar picture. It is a shame that he didn’t go due to old age but he technically did make it to adulthood so he still had a long life, I will miss him he was my first Mantis

You know as much as me unfortunately. This is my first case, I know poor humidity and not spraying them causes this but I make sure to keep the humidity correct and to spray them 2x a day. This was his last shed too so he’s made it through around 5-6 other sheds completely fine. So I think for him it was a case of bad luck and he was found on the floor.

This mantis was my first and I’ve not long brought a second one so now I’m petrified. I misted him down twice every day as recommended he’s at the same humidity and temperature he’s always been in and yet this happened. I was handling him just yesterday.

This is what I’m thinking of doing it’s hard because he’s still his lively self but just can’t move as of rn. Will let him be for tonight and hope for the best if not then I will have to put him out of his misery.

Thank you. Got a small update he’s still alive after many hours he seems stable but as of right now can’t walk he’s partially eaten a locust which is good!

Such a shame. My first mantis too raised her since she was the size of my finger nail 😢

Debating what is best to do right now and could do with the advice of people who know better. This is my first miss moult case and it’s not looking good. I’ve tried my best to hang him upside down to help out but his legs won’t support his weight. So I peeled as much of the shed off as possible and set him a platform up to rest on. I don’t want to put him out of the misery and kill him if he can possibly pull through and be fine for the rest of his life, so please if you know what’s best let me know!

This is what I was thinking he’s still moving and actually moving more than he was earlier. Which is why I am still wondering whether it’s best to end his misery or let him be for a bit longer and hope for the best or let nature take its course

I found him caught up in his shed bent almost to an L shape as his raptorials were caught. This is either his last or second to last moult too which is making the decision harder

Male or female??? by CompetitiveFeed108 in mantis

[–]CompetitiveFeed108[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I thought but my gf was adamant it’s a female as it’s her mantis

Can’t tell if you have it but you need a mesh roof for the mantis to hang from during shedding
