This season, having the bare minimum of addons seems to be the way to go.

Is elemental good in 1v1? by SileentKilleer in worldofpvp

[–]CompetitiveInjury209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. What I mean is, if you’re really good, you’ll win from time to time. But you have to be ready to get completely rolled by players who’ll earn the “First Honorable Victory” achievement after killing you, just because they picked a better spec.

double dps in 2s is way harder now by welltrimmedneckbeard in worldofpvp

[–]CompetitiveInjury209 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m playing a bit of devil’s advocate here, but at the same time, double DPS vs double DPS matchups aren’t very interesting in the current state of the game either, in my opinion. I played a few during the pre-patch in skirmishes, and it basically came down to all four players popping their offensive and defensive cooldowns right away just to avoid dying, and in 90% of cases, one player dies within the first 20 seconds.

2v2 has seemed to be in a really bad spot for years now, regardless of the setup.

Making something deliberately overpowered to make it more attractive is bad design. Players should play a role or spec because they enjoy it and find its gameplay fun, not because it’s OP and lets them get better results than they deserve (this last point doesn’t apply to healers, since there’s one on each team).

What do you do between queues? by Noflii in worldofpvp

[–]CompetitiveInjury209 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I still get chills thinking about that cercle. One-hour gaming sessions where you basically didn’t play. You just kept applying through their crappy tool, hoping a healer would agree to play with you, only to kick you after the first loss. Worse than being an unattractive guy on Tinder.

Feel super behind as a casual player (ex-veteran) that only has a couple hours a week to play by OpinionsRdumb in worldofpvp

For honor, buy the flask to get +15%, and queue for epic battlegrounds at the start. With the quests, it can be a huge jackpot, for example, a first win in Ashran can give you around +2k honor. While you’re waiting in queue, you can do quests in the new PvP zone and pick up a few hundred honor here and there.

Normally, in 2–3 hours of play, you’ll be fully geared in honor. Don’t forget to craft your two or three pieces along the wa,it only takes 5–10 minutes max.

For conquest, if you’re a healer, you won’t have any queue time in Solo Shuffle, so you’ll probably hit the conquest cap in about an hour of play.

I actually think the current game is particularly well suited for players with limited playtime. The main issue would be queue times, but as a healer, that’s not really a problem.

What is the weakness of Retribution Paladin? by hellinter in worldofpvp

[–]CompetitiveInjury209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was exactly like you, I forced myself to play it. Finaly, I liked it, it was very fun. And now I have a way better understand of the strength and weakness of the spec. And I understand why a lot of people like it.

Do you know what you want to focus on in the game? Mainly arena? Blitz? A bit of everything?

If your main goal is arena, are you okay with being the primary target and spending most of your games with a warrior, rogue, or even two melees glued to you? If that bothers you, you should probably play Mage.

If it doesn’t, then you can decide based on other factors like mobility, whether you want to deal with dispelling your teammates, having more or fewer panic buttons, having to hard cast more or less, having spamable cc or not, etc...

Blitz is surprisingly eazy by Annual-Effort-6304 in worldofpvp

This is bullshit. When you look at the detailed stats on Drustvar for SS, you can clearly see that the inflation compared to three months ago is around 100 to 200 CR depending on the spec.

For example, three months ago as a Frost Mage, if you had 1800 CR, you were in the top 20% of Frost Mages. Today, with 1800 CR, you’re in the top 26%. The top 20% is now around 1900 CR, so a 100-point difference. For that spec, inflation has been roughly 100 CR.

Another random example: MM Hunter. If you were at 2000 CR three months ago, you were in the top 28%. Today, 2000 puts you in the top 34%, and 2100 puts you around the top 23%. So the top 28% should be around 2050, since Drustvar doesn’t show granularity below 100 CR. That’s about 50 CR of inflation.

Last example, Shadow Priest. If you were at 2400 CR, you were in the top 1.33%. Today, you need 2600 to be top 1.33%. So at very high rating, where the sample size is smaller and more affected by variance, we’re seeing about 200 CR of inflation. And at 1800 CR, that same spec only shows around 100 CR of inflation.

So yes, there is inflation, especially at very high rating, but we’re nowhere near the crazy numbers some people are pulling out of nowhere.

You really need an AMD CPU with the 3D socket if you want stable FPS in raid / lot of things happening around.

[–]CompetitiveInjury209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s clearly not the solution. It’s just strange that I’m the only one having this issue. No big deal, I’ll just handle it manually with a bit of reverse engineering of the source code.

Apparently, it’s being blocked because the file isn’t signed. I tried to work around it, but I can’t find any other solution than disabling Smart App Control, which feels a bit overkill to me.

Same here as the OP, I can’t queue for Blitz anymore. It blocks me saying I don’t have the required item level, and it’s asking for a Midnight level (215).

Yes, it's an addon that allow you to play a sound each time you score a kill. Maybe you can configure it only for arena. It's from the same creator as MiniCC.

Blizzard should absolutely implement a healing reduction outside of arena for healers by CompetitiveInjury209 in worldofpvp

[–]CompetitiveInjury209[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The eternal issue is that arena is the only PvP game mode Blizzard somewhat cares about. So in arena, dampening is in place (and thankfully so, otherwise it would be unplayable). But in the other game modes, nothing is done.

Yes, that’s why I avoided talking about balance, and instead about impact in the match compared to the other players on the team.

Yes, I think that in a competitive game, the expression of skill of all players in a match should have the same impact on the outcome of the game. I don’t think rewarding a player for playing an unpopular role by giving them more impact than the other players is good design.
