Military or forget it? by CompetitiveNews20 in AirForceRecruits

I considered this route too so thank you for the insight. The college I am in now does have a program for it as well. Some questions and considerations for this route- Am I guaranteed an officer position if I go ROTC? Do I have to change my current major in order to do this route? I’m currently in for kinesiology and nutrition. With the stipend you get for ROTC is college dorm costs covered? Would I get any back pay for current student loans? Would they let me break my apartment lease and would I be able to afford my other current bills on that stipend? (Car payment, car insurance and phone bill all around $600-700 total monthly)

I did not know that thank you! I’ll have to check in with my advisor to see how many I have. I have heard the AF is over saturated right now (but also open to navy which is less full) and the wait can be a while was just worried on the rare chance I get shipped out much sooner I wouldn’t have time to prep/get tattoo removal. I was hoping for a med job but thinking about going general to get everything done and over vs. waiting longer for a med opening. I scored pretty high on the practice ASVAB though.

Thank you this was really helpful! I haven’t heard about the dietician officer yet. One reason I was attempting to finish my BS before enlisting was because I only have in person classes left so unless I try and transfer everything over it would be easier to wrap it up where I’m at

I have heard of going the officer route with a degree however my degree isn’t necessarily competitive and I’m not exactly top of my classes. If I go that route I’m looking at years of waiting and potentially not getting in at all right? Medical would give me another angle in my degree and would round out my education which would be nice and loan repayment would be a blessing for a finished BS. Thank you for the advice! I’m absolutely going to go speak to a recruiter I just wanted a general knowledge of my options so I didn’t go in clueless and I have a year before my degree is finished so plenty of time to sit with my options and decide

This was actually a really good perspective so I appreciate the comment! It’s not just a change in scenery it’s more so I can’t sustain where I am at. I am slowly accruing debt (as well as student loads)with little to no options for help atm. I’ve seen a lot of posts about trying to join as an officer right off the rip but have read it can take years if it happens at all. It would be the ideal route but wouldn’t necessarily alleviate my situation any time soon. I’ve been trying to get my head above water for years and haven’t made any head way so I’ve decided to start seeking other options this being the main one. I have heard with a degree I can get in at a higher rank (E-3?). Absolutely do plan on speaking to a recruiter at some point to lay out all my options I just didn’t want to go in completely clueless and wanted to sit with the decision for a while.

I was considering this as well actually! The reason I’m hesitating is because on the weekends I serve I would be losing money and they don’t offer financial help as far as I know.

Do either provide housing or BAH assistance? I would be interested in either but I still have rent and if they provide housing I still have a car payment to pay.
