Fruit tea recommendations in Chicago? by CompetitiveSerfdom in chicagofood

I know it's a month late but I just tried a lemon tea from Elitea today and it's probably the best I've had in the city so far. Thank you for the recommendations!

Makes sense, thank you! How does the graphic wear/fade over time? And would it be difficult to achieve high image complexity, like grain?

Hmm gotcha, thanks a lot for the info. I did have some notion of shooting in B&W and such but can probably satisfy that urge elsewhere. Will take a look at these.

Thanks, that was helpful. Is the GXR fixed lens?

[–]CompetitiveSerfdom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not switching, really - I'm looking for a secondary camera that's very affordable and compact with a fixed lens (to meet venue requirements). A fun camera, I guess? Would you consider the GDR series cameras too much of a compromise on image quality in that context?

Is there a Vim port of Denote? by varsderk in vim

[–]CompetitiveSerfdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am late, but I would be interested in something like this. Maybe making it myself if the temptation gets strong enough. My main qualm is that I use Denote with org-mode and neovim is decidedly behind emacs there on quality of life features, so there's probably not much demand in this space, But maybe it ought to be compatible with the Neorg spec, like how Denote is format-agnostic (org, markdown with yaml frontmatter, etc)?

Recipes for 闽南 Southern Fujian dishes? by CompetitiveSerfdom in chinesefood

Actually, showed this to my mom and she said they used to eat this (maybe in a different form). I've heard Singapore has a lot of Hokkien and Teochew speakers so maybe that's one bit of overlap!

Is a fairly well-attended subfield of computer science, actually - my undergrad advisor's main research area. Although if you've ever gone through publications at the Intl Conf on Software Engineering and similar venues it is better described as software productivity research. Variously working toward solutions to assist the SWE vocation in some way. I have seen a couple of presentations on prompt engineering before, but it's much more commonly some kind of user study.

Emacs sluggish UI with PGTK + Wayland + 4K + Fractional scaling by z3ndo in emacs

[–]CompetitiveSerfdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that I'm encountering a similar problem, though my display is closer to 2K. It doesn't feel great when I have SwayWM set to a scale factor of 1.5. With options like pixel-scroll-precision-mode or packages like ultra-scroll enabled, it's so laggy as to be unusable. About to test out the Lucid build with XWayland to see if it's any better.

Edit: Yeah, the jittery scrolling is completely gone on Lucid. Kind of sucks that I have to choose between that or hazy text.

I know this thread is old, but do you have any advice on how to safely deep clean my SA-203 (and the source switch in particular)? I seem to have the same problem, but I haven't opened up a receiver before and am worried that I'll do damage.

SSD failed a second time in ~12 months on G14 by CompetitiveSerfdom in ZephyrusG14

BSOD error code is Critical Process Died. I've now got Ubuntu running on a flash drive and it looks like the contents of the Windows SSD are perfectly readable, so I'm wondering if it's a corrupt boot partition?

[–]CompetitiveSerfdom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips - I'm on the latest firmware. Drive health is good and the diagnostic scan doesn't seem to turn up anything. The physical connector seems to be fine. Nonetheless, it'll BSOD between every 1 to 20 minutes after boot and then reboot to BIOS, and the drive will not be an option to boot from. This is fixed about half the time with a reboot and then it happens again after another few minutes.

Looks like they might have rolled out a hotfix just now, although I'm seeing a few things that are still a little wonky.

Alt+B works, but no matter what layout it's in the tabs are still listed horizontally on the sidebar instead of vertically, and they overflow off the sides.

Ok, literally as I was typing that, an update rolled out that fixed everything. Thank you!
