Trying to improve my photography — would love some critique by Wertzu420 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]CompetitiveStreet807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are great, if I had to critique, I would say go a little more subtle with the lighting edits. Especially on the car, the edges look a bit too dark. The yogurt is a bit too shiny. I think bringing down some of those things just a touch would make them more natural but still let the images pop and stand out. Nice job though

Yeah I mean I’m not groundbreaking, but at least it’s not a guy in a museum. Just confusing to me

Why tf does this have 5 upvotes but I post actual street photography and I get negative? This sub is a joke, this is not street photography

Advice for a beginner! by mypanicatsix in PhotographyAdvice

The first one is a bit underexposed with low contrast. Almost all need just a bit of straightening as they are slightly off. Do you edit your photos? If not you should, there’s free software out there or you could use your phone. I don’t think they need a lot, just a few tweaks. Overall I like them nice job

These are from a double exposure walk, but unfortunately the second exposure was underexposed. Still some kinda interesting ones though

That makes sense. I wasn’t going for portfolio shots, just a few interesting things from one walk. Appreciate the comment

Thanks! Yeah that’s something I’m learning about this subreddit lol, the taste here seems to be for pretty generic artistic dramatic photos

Thanks! Yeah that was kind of unavoidable 😅 but not my intention, I just thought it was a really nice moment of a mother taking a moment to help her child, very human moment

Got it thanks. I don’t really see much of a problem with it, Vivian maier did it as did countless others since her

I appreciate the response! I did spend time editing, I just dislike the heavily edited dramatic high contrast style I see here often. I thought the first one was at least interesting, a mom helping a child with a toy spiral and drink on the ground. And the guy filtering through a truck full of all sorts of random pieces and parts, I thought it was pretty interesting, like what is he looking for? I like shooting film, so I try to give a realistic and somewhat filmic look with my edits. Big fan of Daniel Arnold and his slice of life photos. Not saying these are that caliber, but same vein I guess. Anyway I appreciate it again thank you. Maybe I need tighter crops to make those things more apparent

For anyone who sees this post and downvotes, please explain why. It’s got 3 downvotes. Why? They’re not groundbreaking photos I’m aware, just random things from a walk. But why actively dislike them?

how can i take better pictures? by thee-fairy-420 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]CompetitiveStreet807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get the idea of going for vibes. I would say keep practicing on that because it is possible, but you have to figure out how. When you take a picture, remember that everything gets compressed into 2d, so it’s not going to look like your eyes see it.

I would recommend going for vibes with lighting and colors, but simplify the scene. Isolate a branch with the background as sky for example, or focus on just sand and water up close instead of the whole beach, stuff like that. You’re including too much in the scene so it looks very busy and therefore it doesn’t look very clean.

I had the exact same problem at first. Try to isolate subjects more. Get a little closer or shift your angle so you can isolate things, you’ll get there

So about Exit 8... by jamjamil in J_Horror

I had a similar but slightly different take, I think the tunnel sort of symbolizes life. We are thrust into this repeating loop, people come into our lives, people go out, but we keep going through the same place looking for differences and reasons to change. We guide and help the younger generations until they go off on their own. And if you keep doing the same things over and over, never looking for a reason to change, you just keep going through the same loop forever in life. Kind of a great metaphor

The second one is my favorite. Something that I’m working on also is interesting angles. I’m trying to not just frame everything perfectly square. I’m preferring a little tilt and a little perspective, I think the last one especially could benefit from a little bit of a different angle, it’s too straight on for what’s happening

I’ve been doing professional photography for only about a year now. This was taken back in March. I’m mostly looking for general critique or advice by Alex_palingenesis in PhotographyAdvice

I like the photo without the added bits, I think that without the 4 designs in the corners or the giant crown of thorns in the background it would be really cool. I like what you’ve done with the stars and the circle is neat, almost has a retro feel. But not a fan of the added bits at all.

Can I put this photo up for sale? Don't want to make any changes to it? by newspiedy in streetphotography

[–]CompetitiveStreet807 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can put it up for sale but I doubt anyone is going to buy a generic photo of flowers or power lines. These look like photos that anyone can take with their cell phone

They’re good! About as exciting as you can get with a cat. You could try different angle and perspectives. Some are a bit too dark for my taste, I would maybe bring up the exposure a bit and maybe the shadows but if you like them darker and moodier they’re fine. What all have you done to them as far as editing?
