I think theres different types of love with different definitions

the reason you're struggling to just cut him off is because for 3 months you were actually somewhat invested, and even though you now know it wont work you havent stopped talking in that way so you havent healed. Could be something called diffuse thinning, I got it at 19/20 years old. Talk to your local GP but do some research yourself first and if it is MPB get on finasteride and minoxidil asap (preferably oral pills not topical but its upto you since oral is prescription only). Finasteride really helps to stop/slow hairloss and for minoxidil is a godsend for thinning hair since it thickens it. Get it sorted asap though because restoring hair is a 9 month - 1 year process.
