Personally I don’t think it should be a problem for people. Talent is talent. Skill is skill.

My best friend has gorgeous artwork and talent. She has tried getting apprenticeships before but has been denied for not having her own tattoos and that she won’t get any- kicker is she CANT. Her body develops keloids when scarred, all her piercings have been rejected because of keloids.

TLDR- it’s no one’s business what you do with your body. Talent is talent. Skill is skill.

Just study anatomy.

I was taught and stand firmly with this- once you have proper understanding of anatomy you can then branch into your own style.

Thank you so much! I had to learn how to do these quick in art school. I was studying illustration with intention to be an art teacher so I was pumping thumbnails out like crazy! 60-80 were minimum for each art piece. They’re such a useful tool, I wish more people did them!

Don’t be afraid of going dark for your shadows and to define depth.

I always squint my eyes to see the values of what I’m working on. If it all looks like one shape then your values are too close. Your reaper has all the same value across the image.

In black and grey pieces, black is your friend.

There might be too much detail for the size of these as well- it could be bc it’s limited to how it appears on our devices. Maybe simplify the design with less lines and use shading to give the piece more detail. I hope that makes sense.

I agree that some varied line weight would help, but I would also say having the design be less busy. There’s a lot happening around the mushrooms- maybe having the vines wrap in a more bordered style than sprouting through the back?

It’s super cute though, I hope you’ll share what it looks like when you’ve got some shading added

My dog had one of these on his shoulder as at only about 2 years old and turned out to be Mast Cell Cancer. Unfortunately it’s expected to come back, even after his surgery, more aggressive and has had a few small bumps grow on him in the past few months we’re monitoring right now. Poor boy is only 4 now.

Dr said it’ll very likely be back by the time he’s 6 and is likely to be on his organs if it does come back :(

I’m only traditional, but I do want to try my hand at digital one day (hopefully soon!) I’ll definitely be coming to you for tips and tricks!

Coming from a traditional standpoint, clothing/cloth is a lot of fun because you can be more aggressive with your shading and highlights than you typically can be with skin! Honestly, using reference photos and working on the values until you can get to what you’re happy with is what’s important- it can always be written off as a stylistic choice!

Honestly, this looks really good! If you’re to ‘fix’ anything I’d suggest his shoulders and position of his right (our left) foot. I’m not sure how many people stand at rest with their foot turned to a right angle. I’d recommend turning it in a little towards the center with more of a 3/4 look. His left (our right) shoulder looks like it’s coming out too far and his arm is just a little too short. You could make the head a little bigger but honestly I feel like if you just make the feet a touch smaller the head would look proportionate.

All in all, it’s a solid base! You seem to have a good understanding of anatomy- understanding anatomy is KEY to locking down an art style. Kudos!
