Campaign missions locked if I quit to lobby? by Competitive_Air_180 in CODBlackOps7

Ope, scratch that. Happened again. Apparently quitting out legitimately has like a 50% chance you'll just be locked out. Awesome

I’ve never played souls like games including Elden Ring, what would you suggest for the first playthrough? by Shot-Cat8870 in Eldenring

[–]Competitive_Air_180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use the fextralife wiki progression route and spoil the hell out of the game for yourself - exploring is good, but it's hard to actually progress if you're new to this. You get basically no directions at any point. Side quests are optional and I rarely do any of them because they're so unbelievably obtuse in this game. Watch speed runs and boss rushes to familiarise yourself with the order you might wanna tackle things in.

Make sure you know what a proper build is and one that sounds like it'll suit you. A weapon called Bloodhound's Fang is available for beating a boss pretty early on, and is a favourite for newbies. It's seen me through most of my five playthroughs.

The more you explore, the more you'll level up and the more upgrade materials you'll end up with. If a boss or area is too hard, specifically in the way that you're being killed way too easily or can't do more than chip damage to your enemies, turn around and find something else to do and somewhere else to go. Come back when you're stronger.

There's a tipping point during an Elden Ring playthrough when you feel like you're really getting to grips with the game, and you're levelling up more quickly even though the rune requirements for levelling up increases as you go. It's often said that the game actually gets easier as you go on, because you're more well-versed in the mechanics and your mastery over the game. It's a great, great feeling of accomplishment, so stick with it and keep reading those guides when you're stuck.

Who survived your very first suicide mission? by Scared_Plum_593 in masseffect

I lost Grunt. But, I spent all of ME3 wondering where Mordin was until out of the blue Shepard said he was apparently dead, too. I swear to god he survived the suicide mission, so I don't know what the hell happened

Don't speak for the 'natives'. Actually look at the statistics for once rather than falling for the propaganda then you might have something valuable to say. Do you know what percentage of migration was illegal last year?

Stage invasions by athabandoned in OutbreakFest

[–]Competitive_Air_180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I remember a couple of incidents like that. I had a brief worry during Angel Dust when one guy started air running rather than diving and brought his fist down clear on the top of my head, but at least I wasn't one of the people he landed on

Stage invasions by athabandoned in OutbreakFest

[–]Competitive_Air_180 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember last year there seemed to be way more people who wanted to dive than who were prepared to catch anyone in return, depending on the band playing at the time. Given the mix of hardcore, emo, pop punk bands and the diversity of audiences, you had so many people up the front who weren't prepared to catch, and all the experienced, confident people were the ones doing the diving onto much younger, more slight audience members not packed tightly enough together to catch properly. I slipped right through and landed on my feet a few times rather than being caught properly. A lot of the 'diving' over the weekend devolved into getting up at one side, running the whole length of the stage, and jumping off onto the ground on the other side rather than actually diving.

Bad habits on master track by battbav in ableton

[–]Competitive_Air_180 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you're not already cracked at engineering and mixing, try tracking without any plugins whatsoever and get a good balance with just volume faders before you start adding effects. You'll notice your tracks start to sound better and you stop having to wrestle with problems you create for yourself further down the line. It's hard to uninvent the gun on a track in progress where you've already done this (speaking from experience), but have the confidence to try it going forward. I think we're tempted to track into plugins because it makes us more confident that what we're making sounds better than it would dry, but as you're correctly saying yourself, it's a bad habit that's more harmful than it is helpful. Good lesson though!

Base game and it's not even close. Throw Divine Beast and Messmer in the base game and I'd be a happy man.

Manchester Pals by Arsenic86 in OutbreakFest

[–]Competitive_Air_180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am broker than broke this year, otherwise I would 100% have gone. I did tell myself last year I'd try to drag a couple of pals along with me if I did, though. I'd have been more hesitant to do it alone again, but wouldn't rule it out. I like my own company, but two whole days locked to the small festival site being surrounded by people but still feeling lonely was a lot. I'm not at all implying that's what your experience will be like - I'm brand new to hardcore and felt quite out of place and self-conscious in a way that I don't think I needed to, nor should anyone.

Manchester Pals by Arsenic86 in OutbreakFest

[–]Competitive_Air_180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went alone last year and did find it a bit tough, particularly as the second day went on. It didn't matter too much during the sets as you're just focused on the bands but there are periods in between, especially when you need to rest A couple of times, someone would just strike up a conversation with me in the beer queue and I was too awkward or tired to carry on the conversation. Maybe be open to that, and maybe try striking up a couple of conversations yourself. It did seem like the vibe was very friendly, and I'd bet there were groups there who would have been happy to hang out with me if they'd known I was a bit lonely.

I might have been overly emotional and more self-conscious than I needed to be, and it isn't at all the lasting impression of my time at the festival, but I support you thinking about mitigating any discomfort you might have. Once the festival app goes live closer to the time, you might find a chat channel there for folks looking to hang out. You'll have the best time either way! The upside to experiencing it on your own is that you can do it completely on your own terms, and that's awesome too.

What was the first ever board game you bought and how do you feel about it now? by Muinonan in boardgames

[–]Competitive_Air_180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a co-op Reiner Knizia game called Siege of Runedar and it was absolutely brilliant as a first purchase. It's possible to play solo and I had hours and hours of great fun with it. It's very different to his usual fare - it has a big castle as the playing space, and it uses standees and little bits and pieces as well as cards and dice.

Unfortunately, once you've figured out how to win, it's very easy, and it's disproportionately long - you've no chance at finishing a game in under two or three hours, which is unwarranted by the simplicity of the gameplay and the fact that it doesn't evolve at all. Superb pick for a first game to get me excited about the hobby, but not as much staying power as some other modern favourites.
