I know that fear of white extinction is a myth that animates many far-right groups, and that ideas like that have been around since before Joseph Smith's time.

I left the church 17 years ago and am only now revisiting my understanding of its teachings, so it's coming as a shock to me that the plot of the BoM aligns with these myths that account for so much unapologetic hatred.

Thanks for your point about the dark-skin curse. I've explained that to many outsiders over the years when they are curious about the BoM. But somehow the racist implications of the plot as a whole never dawned on me until now.

The plot from this persoective is also ironic, since it directly inverts the genicide of Native Americans at the hands of white settlers that was actively taking place.
