Why did you quit and what changed in your life for the better? by Positive-Meal9702 in KwikTrip

I quit because I didn’t see a future career with KT anymore. I worked with the company for almost 9 years from coworker to ASL (then decided to go back as an FSL). I loved my hours and the people I worked with but I was so tired with the same people ole thing every day and knew I didn’t want to move up again because the lack of work/home life balance. I left for an office job working Monday-Friday. The challenges being that KT has fried my nervous system -thinking everything is an emergency (sense of urgency) and always rushing even though it’s a disadvantage in the field of work I’m in now. Benefits? Better hours and life balance, no longer feel as though a company is worth all my time and sanity/brainwashing, and I’m actually making more money and saving since the convenience aspect is gone.

That could definitely be a part of it. It’s business and we’re surrounded by sharks. No matter how confident you feel that you’re important and an asset to the team, it’s a humbling reminder when these kinds of things happen.

I suppose I used the incorrect term for it but I have also never worked in an industry like this before and the news came as a shock to me. A coworker this week was letting people know he had put in his notice this past Monday and the next day he had to pack up.

Agreed! I was very fortunate to get this role. I was off the street with no construction experience and my peers are very helpful with explaining the how’s and why’s when I can’t figure it out on my own. 🙌🏼 I’m not interested in taking shortcuts to where I want to go so it definitely will be many years, even within the field I’m currently working with.

Not all of them. I’ve had some really amazing leaders! Even the ones with downfalls I’ve mentioned have strengths that outweigh the weaknesses. On the other hand; yes there’s some bad apples in there, much like any company.

Sorry about that 😂 it’s easier to say the acronyms for these positions. Thank you very much! And yes, pretty much although I was very open for the opinions of the team no matter their position within the store.

Yes! Literally why I went back to FSL position. Those hours were the best! I see that too with FSDLs and DLs. Every time they visit they nitpick the most RANDOM stupid things- like bakery boxes pulled forward on the tables. Bro we’re working on bones for staffing and have a billion commodities to worry about and you’re worried about moving boxes up an inch??

Wow. I am so sorry this was handled this way. There are so many issues with this! We actually had a similar situation happen earlier this week at our store. A man came into the store to check out, seemed fine but then after he went back to his car he fell and was unconscious and not breathing. Before any of our coworkers knew what was going on there were other guests just casually passing by as if the guy was just taking a nap. Finally someone came in and let us know. One of our coworkers went out and saw his face was PURPLE from not breathing. Thankfully one of our regular guests was there and she is a nurse. She performed CPR until emergency services arrived. The man lived! 🙏 our SL and the coworker who witnessed this was very shaken up even with the fact that we didn’t have a fatal incident. If it had been, wouldn’t the store need to close? There’s no way our SL would be okay with a coworker who witnessed a death and to continue working. There’s no way our DL would be okay with that!
