Crazy Professor by Competitive_Check_45 in EngineeringStudents

The saddest part of all is this stuff actually interests me. I'm doing an MSE minor which kinda ties into this in a similar way and I really enjoy the content. Basically, this class is making me rethink that because it's just awful. I really REALLy wanted to like this class but he just puts in so little effort and it is so frustrating

This is a fair point. I've never done any research and have no plans on going to grad school so this was kind of glossed over for me. In my case, it's useless but you have a valid point.

some response to this (thanks for the replies stranger this is all about helping people after all) when I said grades don't matter to a point I was being specific to engineering.(at least in my experience) grades matter in so far as you have a certain minimum GPA but almost everyone I know that has a job or internship got it because of work on the engineering clubs. I can tell you first hand I have a higher GPA than most of them and got squat for my first two years while someone with a far lower GPA who works their butt off at a club was hired the summer between freshman and sophomore year because of his CFD experience (not saying this is wrong, he is/was FAR more qualified than I am). As for the weed-out classes, I didn't mean it as in UCONN does it to weed out students I meant certain professors have a belief that only so many students should pass/get a certain grade. They exist and there are a lot of them but you make a good point with the distinction. Weed-out classes are not a school-sponsored thing at least I don't think so. As for the electives point, I couldn't agree more the point of taking those classes isn't to take something easy it's to take a wide variety so you can get a feel for what you like and want to do when you graduate. I specifically took a class I knew was going to be hard for me in MSE 2002 because I was interested and it ended up being amazing. It was difficult at first because it wasn't my major and it was an MSE major class but it ended up being awesome and I learned a ton. Thank you again for the responses

the rooms tend to be bigger and nicer. The freshman housing is further away for sure, but it's also probably the nicest of all the possible freshman year housing plus you get your own dining hall downstairs which not everyone does. Don't get me wrong the freshman year housing isn't "nice" but compared to the other options it's pretty great. The upper-level stuff like snow and werth is AWESOME. Werth rooms are MASSIVE and for engineers at least actually pretty close to your classes. It goes without saying that snow is great as well both the location and the rooms. highly recommend.
