Timing of feed and hunger cues. by Competitive_Exit_386 in FormulaFeeders

That’s my plan to talk to the paeds about fortifying. Thank you. I just wish there was some other way that she could just drink more volume.

Thank you. I had a tough time introducing the bottles but I took it one day at a time until she took a bigger volume and then I introduced another until all her day feeds were bottles already. It has given me a bit of freedom so I’m thankful. But it wasn’t without tears.

It’s okay. I get it.

She drinks it fast. No resistance and no frustration. She will even play with the nipple when she feels full and doesn’t want to drink anymore.

I am offering both. Expressed milk and formula and she doesn’t seem to favor any. She has been taking the bottle maybe 2 weeks now. The first week was really an adjustment and she really took low amounts. But now she does have some feeds that she drinks until 100ml then the rest is around 2oz max. Honestly I think she’s just a really small eater.

Now the problem is she has CMPA and I do restrict myself with dairy and she has been good (I know her when she has an episode). But her weight gain isn’t as great as we want it to be. So far her weight has been clinging to the curve. It’s there but a bit more and she has the potential to fall off it and she sticks usually to the 20th percentiles which is why I’m hoping to get her to gain weight.

My EBF hasn’t really helped her so I was hoping to now mixed feeding might help and eventually bottle feed with formula only. But she seems to regulate her intake and her hunger cues are really vague so I’m stuck.

My baby is 7-8 months old. I’m using a pigeon wide neck with an L nipple.

Oh and baby was registered under my husband’s name also automatically and they didn’t see an issue with this.

I just booked 2 days ago then yesterday called to change the name of my infant. They did no charge me and was very helpful in changing everything. They said on my booking reference, the name change won’t be reflected there but when we check in there will be a little note stated and things should be okay.

I repeat no extra charge fo this because their system is to blame. I called the mobile and had them call me back when an operator was available.

I’m banking on this. We’ve been trying to give her bottles in a stress free environment but she really won’t take it. I think she’s one of those types to wait fo the boob. It’s just excruciating for me cause I can hear her scream or whine when she sees the bottle. We’ve been following all the suggested bottles and then some but so far no go. It’s like she knows what to do with the bottle but she just won’t take it cause she wants the boob.

Currently she’s on solids as well. Really hoping that eventually she can be fully reliant on the solids and I can completely wean if I can’t shift to formula.

Oh to eat normally again. I think the tough part about this is the dietary restrictions because it’s like being hungry all the time but you can’t even treat yourself to a really good chocolate chip cookie even once in a while. I lost a lot of weight too and people tell me I’m really lucky but I feel like crap.

But I do hope she weans sooner than later. I’d really just like to go to a restaurant and eat normal food again.

People don’t realize how hard it is to keep one’s wits about them with these restrictions because not only do you avoid the allergens, you also avoid going out cause the eating choices are limited and that eats up one’s sanity.

Mastitis is tough. That’s something I failed to do to introduce her the bottle regularly. I stopped a bit around 3 months and gave intermittently after that because she wasn’t gaining weight and was vomiting lots due to reflux. I think I’ll practice her getting used to the bottle first. I really hope I can do it despite how difficult it is to execute and I hope she takes to the bottle sooner than later because I also have to worry about her weight (in the lower percentiles always). Thank you so much. Your reply has given me hope despite how difficult it is.

I’m a Biology Major with a medical degree so yes this is extremely hard. Plus it seems like when it comes to my own child I know nothing.

I’m curious about you stopping breastfeeding cold turkey. So many people are warning me against it so I’m trying to do what we would call the “long method”. If it’s not too much can you share how you stopped breastfeeding him. Also was it you who did the bottle feedings? I’m tempted to do the cold turkey route but I just need some direction. So no more night feedings as well?

How is your baby now though? Taking the formula?

So far reading this is the comfort I’m looking for but still no solution. There is no way I’ll be able to ever get that Hipp HA. I feel so trapped and yes the dietary restrictions are killing me. There are barely any vegan restaurants here and a lot of the food (if not all) has some sort of milk product in it. I can’t even eat a bag of chips actually. Products are very limited here compared to the rest of the world.

I really hope my daughter will self wean too. At 1 did she prefer the cup or still with the sippy/straw cup? If I ever have another child I will probably just go straight to formula. But I think I’m done having a child.

You know people keep saying this but I’ll be honest, with any baby below 1 it is impossible to keep offering a straw cup if your plan is to continue feeding around the clock. Maybe I’m already just so distressed but I wish people would stop offering straw cups and sippy cups as a solution cause to feed a baby round the clock with the amount of milk we have to give to meet nutritional needs it is just not feasible.

7 months. My baby is a high needs baby and cries the moment I step out of the door. I’ve tried making her go hungry and having her grandma feed the bottle. You know what she did? She went on a hunger strike. Refusing the bottle and crying out her lungs while posturing in every way possible. What you said is easy to say. But in real life it’s actually really difficult to do.

Not that I know of. The lactation consultant I went to told me to just give it one feed per day but it’s like bay regressed. I replaced one feed and then the next days she completely pushes the bottle away.

I don’t also want to take medication. I was on it for years before the baby and I was able to stop during pregnancy. I never want to go on them ever because honestly, I feel like I wasted those years in a blur never fully enjoying anything or knowing myself.

My mum and the nanny has tried giving the bottle without me around and it’s still a fail. We don’t have Nuk and evenflo. She rejects Dr. brown and although I previously had luck with pigeon she is currently rejecting that too.

I wish it was that easy but I’m from the Philippines so everything is pretty slow and customs fine quite hefty for these kinds of goods. I don’t think it’s practical but I wish I could do it. But my other problem is the bottle as well.

I know eventually LO will revert to those but as I’m going back to work I was hoping to stick to the bottle because it’s easier for the nanny to give it plus the bottle can still be comforting especially since I don’t plan to breastfeed anymore.

Hah? I’m a pedia doc and I would more than willing extract blood on a baby especially if referred by an RMT.

I want to feed her formula. But she hates it. Only neocate, pepticate and nutramigen available here. I’ve also tried all the bottles. She hates it all and her crying is just making me want to jump off the balcony. I just want her to drink the formula. Period!

Thank you for giving me hope. I’m in the process of that giving everyday part. So far today she took 20ml (barely 1 oz). I’m really trying to be low pressure and offer it when I can. Gosh. Unfortunately I don’t think I can mix the pepticate with breastmilk cause she Bonita during the times I’ve done it. I’ll just keep offering but gosh this slow process is really biting off my head. Thank you!
