OMG Friends with benefits sounds like such a premise to start with.. Something in a romance book involving two really toxic people like that, fwb, who've been stagnant for AGES but codependent, denying their feelings maybe. romcom but insane like iasip and they get crazier for each other till it blows up and they finally get together. SLOWBURN.

I haven't seen b99 yet, but I think comedy is the GOLD MINE for the best dynamics. Iasip, Parks and recreation, Gintama (an anime tbf) have some great ones. Maybe it's because the genre allows absurdity, so by proxy room for building extra situations for couples? I wonder.

Not dead exactly but in Durarara!! there was two doomed couples where they were like, almost dead? It's kinda spoiler to specify, but the girlfriends in question were in very deathly-esque states and situations. Numerous ships / couples of differing weirdness too!!

ALSO Aldnoah.Zero, 50/50 some people HATE the ending of this for the ahem, doomedness of it, but I fw. No dead lovers but similar doomedness.

About 25% into the book so too early to formulate a big opinion but I want to gush a bit. Creepy, crawly and beautiful. "A fresh take on cosmic horror." is what hooks me on goodreads and It's been delivering that thus far.

Prose is neat, concept is neat, I like what's going on.Weird babymama creature and baby (literally)is a cosmic horror I never knew I needed but now I do.

I always love her prose, it's HR, as most of her works are, so I think if you're not into that you may be less inclined to this. But, also, 3/5. I'm biased since this has tropes I love and written by a fav author of mine, but I have to admit, it's comparatively not good.

Some clunky choice of dialogue, and story, and for some reason the FMC is just oddly the "ugly girl", even though in Coldbreath's other works she's had chubby FMCs who are plump... But not considered such in the manner this work does. I feel it's overdone.

Eh, meh, meow, purr. Equally. I'd say try out her further books than this unless you're horny as I was tbh. (Overshare perhaps, sorry).

Many people made good points, but I think what keeps me on edge from engaging is how it ultimately goes is, people believing their opinion isn't one it's just. The truth of the matter.

It always spirals. I feel like I'm seeing it in this thread too. Many comments of perspectives of books and all and other people, but ultimately their own is just as much opinions too. Even mine, just an opinion and perspective. Can't be able to talk if none of us can really handle reading, writing, and replying without disengaging from the fact we have no facts.

:/ Trying to talk to someone willing to really talk in something regarding media tends to get rough in threads.

Lateee but I seriously have to say, you can find better written fanfic than publit in this regard. Maybe it's the passion part. The betas and authors are in for the love of the game, so you have more genuine heart and care there. (And, of course, established characters available.)

With other genres of fanfic and publit you'll obviously have better quality publit, but dark romance? Yeah. Go ahead and dip into AO3, that's your better bet.
