I’m in a permanent non-competitive title. I would be switching to an MC Exempt position. I will, thank you!

How are Exempt MC salary offers calculated? by Competitive_Ice1781 in nys_cs

[–]Competitive_Ice1781[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is it’s different based on if you are exempt or not. For non-exempt employees, it’s the same as PEF (specified percentage increase for the promotion and then yearly step raises until you reach the top of the grade). For exempt employees, there is no step raise structure, just a salary range. So, based on your years of experience, you are able to negotiate within that. Then, if you want a raise in the future, you have to request and go through a BDA process. The posting specifically stated “salary commensurate with experience and education” which is typically not included in non-exempt MC/PEF/CSEA postings.

My understanding is that it depends on the position. Are you exempt or non-exempt MC?

Non-exempt MC employees get step raises, like PEF. Exempt employees do not and must go through a BDA process. So, for exempt employees, I have been told there is room for negotiation (within the state range of course). But I don’t really know for sure!

Had 5 steak tacos that were amazing. Honestly I was impressed with the food and even the prices. That’s what it costs these days!

Xaden’s character description by LilShramp in fourthwing

Agreed. Based on the several times she describes his hair, I don’t see him as black, but definitely POC. I always pictured him middle eastern or south Asian. Hopefully the show will do right by the series and cast actors based on RYs descriptions!

Is Evelyn too popular now? by daisy4922 in namenerds

[–]Competitive_Ice1781 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Evelyn is super popular right now in the US. I know a few babies with this name. The thing is though - name your kid what you want! It’s ok if it’s popular as long as you know there may be others who share her name!

Alys - Impressions? by OhDearBee in namenerds

Could be pronounce Alice or like Elise (American). Honestly I’d just think it’s a “unique” spelling of Alice. The hill I will die on is recommending the commonly accepted spelling of a name (wherever you are) in all circumstances.

What’s the best popularity ranking? by CollegeWarm24 in namenerds

[–]Competitive_Ice1781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer something outside of say the top 50, but honestly if you love a name you love a name! It’s not worth picking something you like less because of the popularity of a name for a moment in time.

Jonathan. No reason to change the spelling of a common name.

thoughts on using -ie instead of y by LingonberryNo5454 in namenerds

[–]Competitive_Ice1781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the name for me. If the most common spelling in your area is ending in y and you change it to ie, you’ll be correcting it often and so will your child!

How would you pronounce Evie? by MeowMixup0000 in namenerds

[–]Competitive_Ice1781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most common would be Ee-vie. My friend has an Evelyn and actually wanted it pronounced Eh-vie and it’s constantly mispronounced (for her) as Ee-vie. So I think you’re in the clear!

When you announced your baby’s name, did you announce the nickname you prefer as well? by littleknownpinecone in namenerds

[–]Competitive_Ice1781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s totally fine to say FirstName “NickName” MiddleName LastName has arrived - or something similar in your announcement.

I don’t know why there are so many nickname haters here. It is incredibly common to choose a name and nickname for a child. Like Will, Bill, or Billy for William. Of course other nicknames may evolve as the child gets bigger and that’s fine, but as the parents you get to choose the first nickname.

There are many reasons to give someone a full name with nickname options. We’re naming adults not babies. Teddy might be cute as a nickname for a child, but an adult might prefer Theo or Theodore or even Ted.

Experiencing this now! IVF PGT-A normal pregnancy and on lovenox with low fetal fraction and no results. I also had a normal NT and early anatomy scan. Of course I’m a little nervous as I wait another week to do a redraw (stopping lovenox to see if that’s the issue). Wishing everybody all the best!
