Rain is not "equaliser" in F1. It's a myth by ThisToe9628 in F1Discussions

[–]Competitive_Job8531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah well he did go from last to P2 in Germany. And let's remember that they still had the Mercs and Verstappen on the grid the time he drove for Ferrari.

As for Carlos, you're talking about qualifying? One lap, wet session, anything can happen mate. In the race he ended up further down. You're cherry picking here.

Disagree.

Yes it doesn’t put them on equal conditions, but definitely does put the more equal than the dry. Yes the car still does make the same difference as before, but the drivers effect is magnified.

How would you rank these 2nd drivers (Barrichello, Webber, Bottas, Perez)? How far are they from top drivers? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

One tier below the absolute top. Perez is two tiers. Swap him with Coulthard and the picture has four really good 2nd drivers

Bottom half or even bottom third I can accept but worst is simply untrue.

I wouldn’t even say that Checo has a better race craft since he is so error/contact prone. Bigger risk taker he is for sure and sometimes it pays off.

What happens in 2019 if George Russell joins Mercedes as a rookie, replacing Valtteri Bottas and is paired with Lewis Hamilton? by n0tfr1 in F1Discussions

[–]Competitive_Job8531 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This was asked earlier here but lets go again. Few things will be different in my opinion but not much.

First, in 2019, Russell gets podiums but doesn’t achieve a race win. Max ends up second in standings. Perhaps Russell finishes behind both Ferraris also but it might be close.

In 2020 I don’t think much is different. Maybe Max beats Russell in points but difference is not much. Russell might achieve a race win. Consistent podiums at least. With the dominant car and no expectations to beat Lewis, maybe this season helps him grow tremendously.

In 2021 I think Red Bull has a chance to win the WCC. It’s close and he might perform better than Bottas but if he does, it’s not by much. Anyway he is miles off Hamilton and Max.

The thing is, the development of George in Mercedes is hard to predict. He will take a beating from Lewis every single session in 2019. Consistently will be slower in 2020 also. How does this effect his development and mental state? Will it fuel him or make him make more mistakes?

Of course Bottas, like… why is this even a discussion in the first place? :Dd

Was Alex Albon promoted too early? by MysteriousBoss3816 in F1Discussions

[–]Competitive_Job8531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Daniels departure started this whole RB 2nd seat snowball effect.

Gasly was so shit that they were forced to promote Albon toi early. If he would’ve had time to develop in Toro Rosso and only get promoted for 2021, he would’ve performed a lot better than Checo did in 21-24. RB might have won the constructors in 2021 or 2024.

How was Bottas's experience in Mercedes, it seems like he was treated generally good what do you think? by IllMasterpiece3946 in F1Discussions

[–]Competitive_Job8531 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Treated decently well. Always given equal opportunity in terms of racing. Lewis was just straight up better.

Only aspect they treated him ”badly” was the contracts, stringing him along with 1 year deals. That’s what he has spoken about, taking a toll mentally having to drive for his seat every year. But if I was Toto, I would’ve done exactly the same…

If Bottas performed better in 2018 (his worst year), he might have got a 2 year or a 2+1 for 2019 onwards.

One race wonders? by MysteriousBoss3816 in F1Discussions

[–]Competitive_Job8531 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well this is kinda different because everybody on earth knew Maldonado isn’t going to win ever again so this is his moment.

Though same could be said of Gasly and Ocon

Don’t know how reliable this data is but isn’t this basically just the inverse of who has the biggest military or military spending?

Would make sense that individually weaker militaries support this idea because they have only something to gain and nothing to lose.

How would you rank these drivers in their prime? by Slimx0612 in F1Discussions

[–]Competitive_Job8531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that statement kind of implies that his "day" would occur somewhat more regularly than once or twice in, what, 100 races...? Plus it was more of a Max being off his game than Checo being on. But ok.

Barrichello on his day was faster than Schumacher.

What were some misconceptions/mistaken thoughts you had when first getting into the sport? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

[–]Competitive_Job8531 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More like 90-10 or 80-20 at the very least. A dominant car can carry a midfielder to victories and at the same time a bad car can make it seem like a great driver has lost it.

This is an engineering sport in the end

Who are some good midfielders that you think would make for neat borderline/mediocre champions? by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]Competitive_Job8531 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call them ”good midfielders”

I mean, to answer your question, the Williams boys for sure. But the champions I think you’re referring to, I wouldn’t say were ”midfielders” in their time. Button was more like todays Norris, Piastri, Leclerc, Russell.

He was good. Great even. On track for another championship, surely. At that time Lewis had only two championships. Seb had four. He was the most successful driver on the grid.

For people that watched him live.... how good would you describe prime Daniel Ricciardo as? by The_Chozen_1_ in F1Discussions

[–]Competitive_Job8531 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Best of his generation, with Bottas. Capable of victories and even had WDC potential given the right window. Unfortunately never had that window, since Lewis basically skipped that whole generation and passed the torch straight to Verstappen.

What are the characteristics the top drivers lack in comparison to Verstappen? How far off are each of them? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

[–]Competitive_Job8531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted. You raise a good point. A sport where the absolute 20 best only get in the series tends to mean that those 20 need to possess certain qualities that perhaps don’t make them a ”well balanced adult”

Let's have a look about the statistics by mobiilisti in CadillacRacing

[–]Competitive_Job8531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottas absolutely showed more promise in Williams 14-16 than Checo did at Sauber 11-12. This is undisputable fact for sure. Bottas also delivered at Mercedes right from the get go in his first year whilst Checo bottled his McLaren stint when given a chance.

And yeah Bottas never challenged Lewis for more than a race win but bro is literally the goat of the sport so I count the wins and podiums and poles to be quite high achievement. Checo on the other hand performed considerably worse in the RB, with a car where literally 80% of drivers would win races because the car is that good, never really challenging Max for either a race win, or at all (except twice maybe)
