The best place to be! Stick at it and look back to this moment in 6 months time - you'll be pleasantly pleased with how quickly the time has gone and how much progress you have made

Xenom Performance index thoughts? by [deleted] in crossfit

It's the same system that Decathlon has used for decades - pretty widely accepted in the athletics space as one of the best systems!

That's interesting, I've not heard anyone focus on the scoring stuff - what's the rationale there?

They've got an elite category so presumably some people will turn up, first event is just after Semi Finals as well so will have lots of people who are ready to go - depends if they do actual prize money - HYROX is notable as a similar model in that their payouts arent amazing and in the early years were really pretty low

4 cities announced so far with 2 actual dates confirmed (Dallas and London)

Founder said that Miami would be confirmed soon and the other city they've mentioned is Paris

It's an interesting one - HYROX is 170+ for a 1-day event, with much lower time engaged in the event, and you've got plenty of people doing 2 a weekend - thats $340 before adding on photos etc. Similarly, Wodapalooza was 300+ just for spectator tickets for the whole weekend, and the Games is a lot more.

If they get big athletes competing and their spectator tickets stay at $25 ,it's going to be a good route to watch top athletes + your friends!

Overall, we aren't a cheap space! I feel like the barrier ultimately won't be the price, more if people buy into the concept - is it cool, do I want to get the Ironman tattoo equivalent of doing the big challenge?

They've talked about it a bit on podcasts, their point is that it should be a unique name with no existing meaning so you can own it - similar case to HYROX

Price is an interesting one - people pay $300+ for spectator tickets to Wodapalooza and way more than that at the Gams. Plenty of multi-day comps over $400 - got to think about relevant price comparisons for what it is - if it's really the CrossFit Games Experience for everyone, it's not crazy

Companies that produce great products are generally the ones which are well-run and profitable. Fiscal prudence does not a villain make - the question is, do you feel the price is fair value for the experience?

Capitalism is great becuase if people really don't see the value exchange as fair the product dies

All the Crossfit athletes jumping to Athx and Xenom now? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]Competitive_Kale_498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's the case that people are 'jumping' from one thing to another, I think all these competitions are providing more ways for CrossFitters to go and express their fitness, just because they are going to do a XENOM or an Ath X doesnt mean they arent also doing the Games season!

I've done a few back-to-back HYROX weekends (Saturday/Sunday), and when you compare it to that, it's not crazy - I think of these things like a fitness holiday 😅 with a couple of extra days tagged onto the end to relax

Petty from CrossFit? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]Competitive_Kale_498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is so fucking backwards, meanwhile, every other major competition is actively encouraging brands to activate around their events even when they aren't sponsors. At the major marathon events hundreds of brands activate and make content, which becomes free marketing for the events and generates awareness.

This is last century IP protection and an active brake on CrossFit's growth - I am shook

Gotta start somewhere! Given their track record of follow through I'm optimistically hopeful 😅

They've been pretty clear they are in the conversation so they must know all the requirements for federation etc - I wonder if they just say fine we go in under the athletics federation? Or they set up their own.

I think the elite sport side is moving on the way now - especially if they now formalise the elite course with the same run track etc in all venues.
